The Best Dash Camera for the NEW Mitsubishi Outlander
Congrats on the new Outlander! Whether you’ve gone for the punchy petrol Aspire or the high-tech PHEV Exceed Tourer, you’ve picked one of the sharpest looking SUVs on Aussie roads. It’s a top-seller for a reason!
You've likely found us by searching 'Whats the best dash camera for a Mitsubishi Outlander' and boom here we are! To simply put it - we've spent more time inside vehicles than I have my own lounge room. Our motto; We don’t just sell boxes; we sell solutions. We want to ensure whichever brand, model, or solution you go with - we leave you with knowledge to ensure your safety sensors don't throw a tantrum. Here is the definitive guide to protecting your Mitsubishi - The Dash Cam Guys way!
OEM "Genuine" vs. Aftermarket: The Cold Hard Truth
The dealer probably tried to sell you their "Genuine" integrated dash cam for a cool $1,395+. Before you sign, know this: most dealer-fit cams are 2-3 years behind the curve. They usually feature pretty basic sensors - 1080p or 2K that tend to turn number plates into a blurry mess at night.
More importantly, the "Genuine" app is often about as stable as a three-legged stool. If you want 4K clarity and an app that actually connects to your phone when you're standing on the side of the road after an accident, a proper well known reliable brand is the only way to go.
The 3 Power Paths: How You can Juice the System
The 2026 Outlander offers a few ways to get power, but they aren't all created equal:
- 12V Accessory Socket: The "lazy" way. It works, but it can be messy and offers zero protection when the car is parked. It powers teh dash camera when your engine is on and driving, and for most - this is the basic way to get protection.
- Dongar/Mirror Adapters: Same power limitations as the above, however great for a quick and easy DIY if you have the auto-dimming mirror, the Dongar Classic Adapter does an amazing job of clearing up with wires and making the installation invisible. but again - no parking mode. These cut power when the ignition is off.
- Hardwire (The Pro Way): Hardwiring usually involves some clever DIY or a professional to tap into the internal fuse box. This is the only way to get "Impact and Motion" detection. For the PHEV, things can get a little tricky as we suggest to specifically look for cameras that offer 'Low Power Parking Modes' ontop of low-voltage cut-off settings to ensure not to don't drain the 12V starter battery.
- OBD Plug-and-Play (The Prosumer way!): We LOVE these new generation of OBD plug in kits. It gives you all the benifits of hardwiring (Power when both driving and when parked!) but instead of faffing about with fuse taps, splicing or soldering, these gadgets literally plug in under the dash board. Making even the most nervous of DIY'er laugh. We're massive fans of the VIOFO OP100 paired with the VIOFO A329S series of cameras, these are (in our eyes) the pinicle of protection meets ease of install.
Expert Technician Note: The Outlander PHEV has a very sensitive 12V battery management system. If you plan on running a dash cam in parking mode for more than 6 hours at a time, we strongly recommend a dedicated External Battery Pack like the VIOFO BP100. It sits under the seat and give you even more peace of mind of protecting your factory warranty by isolating the dash cam's power draw.
The "Outlander" Specific Challenge: ADAS and Grommets
Doing the whole-hog Install (hardwiring) in a ZM Outlander isn't a walk in the park. Two major "gotchas" we see DIY-ers fail at:
1. The ADAS Housing: That big plastic box behind your rearview mirror houses the Mitsubishi "Mi-PILOT" sensors. If you mount a camera too high or too close, you’ll get glare off the plastic or, worse, interfere with the lane-keep assist cameras. The solution is simple however, don't mount whichever camera you choose directly below it (or push it up tight against it!) it's much more safer to mount over on the passenger side below the dot-matrix (black dots at the top of the window itself) still in reach of the wiper blades to clean infront of the lens.
2. The Hatch Grommet: If you are running a 2-channel system (aka Front & Rear) The rear camera cable must be routed through the rubber "elephant trunk" grommet at the top of the tailgate. If you just tuck the wire under the rubber seal and say "She'll be right" your Outlander will leak next time it rains. In our opinion, this is the most important part of the installation - take some time here, check the seal, ensure the grommet is seated back correctly to avoid any future water ingress. If you prefer a Pro instead to get this done for you, we offer a "Find a Fitter" service! Have a look for installers in your area, or message us to get some help finding one. We'll get it sorted.

The Warranty Myth: Will This Void My Warranty?
Short answer: No. Under Australian Consumer Law, Mitsubishi cannot void your warranty for fitting an aftermarket dash cam unless they can prove the dash cam actually caused a specific failure. We recommend the use of either the OBD Kits, or if Hardwiring utilise our "Add-a-Circuit" fuse taps, meaning no cutting or solder a single factory wire. Your 10-year warranty stays intact, and your car stays protected. It’s a win-win.
