VIOFO HK6 Hardwire Kit: The Ultimate Setup & Install Guide

You've grabbed the new VIOFO HK6 kit to unlock that sweet Hybrid Parking Mode, but now you're staring at a bunch of coloured wires and fuses wondering where to start. We've been there.

Welcome to your digital cheat sheet. This isn't just a manual; it's our shop's internal guide to getting the HK6 installed and sorted without the drama. Whether you're a DIYer or one of our national installers, this is the master reference.

INSTALLER INTEL Bluetooth & Calibration

The HK6 features an always-on Bluetooth broadcast. It doesn't need "pairing" in the traditional sense. Your compatible dashcam (A329S, A229 Ultra, etc.) automatically finds the signal and reads the car battery voltage in real-time.

The Gotcha: If the voltage display on your video seems slightly off compared to a multimeter reading at the battery, don't stress. A small voltage drop across the vehicle's wiring is normal. This kit is designed to monitor the voltage at the fuse box.

HK6 Voltage Cut-Off Settings (The Important Bit)

The physical switch on the black box is your last line of defence. Even if the software fails, this switch kills power to save your engine crank.

Switch Position 12V Cut-Off 24V Cut-Off Best For...
Far Left 11.8V 23.6V Max Recording (Not Recommended)
Middle Left 12.0V 24.0V "Standard Balance" but way too low for our recommendation. Use caution, this is not recommended.
Middle Right 12.2V 24.4V Conservative (Recommended for newer vehicles)
Far Right 12.4V 24.8V Max Safety (Recommended and best if car sits for days or for slightly older vehicles)

The Dash Cam Guys FAQ

Q: My battery still went flat! What gives?
Check your "Red" vs "Yellow" wires. On VIOFO kits, Red is Always-On (Battery) and Yellow is Ignition (ACC). If you swap these, the camera won't know when the car is off and may stay in high-power mode until the battery is drained.

Q: Does the App setting override the physical switch?
No, they work together. Installer Strategy: Set the camera's App menu cut-off slightly higher (e.g., 12.2V) than the hardwire kit’s physical switch (e.g., 11.8V). This allows the camera to shut down "softly" first, keeping the physical switch as a backup safety.

Q: Which wire goes where? (The Aussie Standard)

  • Yellow (ACC): Tap into a fuse that turns off with the key (e.g., Radio, Cig Lighter).
  • Red (Battery): Tap into a fuse that stays on (e.g., Hazards, Central Locking).
  • Black (Ground): Ideally using a new Tek screw into the chassis. Less than ideal is utilizing an unpainted factory bolt on the chassis. Using existing chassis bolts is risky - due to coatings/paint of the bolt and often screwed into plastic (acting as a insulator). We always recommend making your own ground screw.
  • Note: Always double-check your specific hardwire kit's labels, as some brands occasionally deviate.
