WOLFBOX X5 User Manual & Troubleshooting Guide

WOLFBOX X5 acting up? Lost the booklet? No stress.

You’ve picked up the WOLFBOX X5 - a cracker of a unit with its 3-channel recording and 4K front cam. But even the best tech throws a wobbly now and then. Whether you're trying to figure out the Hardwire Kit voltages or just can't get the Wi-Fi to play ball, we’ve gathered all the info you need right here so you can get back on the road.

💡 Pro Tip: Don't Kill Your Battery

Setting up Parking Mode? The X5 works best with the dedicated Hardwire Kit. It has a voltage cut-off switch to stop your car battery from going flat.

Recommended Setting: Set the cut-off to 12.4V (or 24.8V for trucks) on the hardwire kit. This gives you plenty of juice to start the ute in the morning.

Common Troubleshooting & Status Codes

The X5 is usually pretty solid, but if it starts beeping or the screen goes black, here is what’s likely going on.

Issue / Message What It Means & How To Fix It
"Memory Error" or "Format SD" The card is likely formatted wrong or too slow.
Fix: Format the card directly in the dash cam menu (FAT32). If that fails, you need a high-endurance U3 Class 10 card.
Wi-Fi Won't Connect Your phone is probably trying to stick to its mobile data 4G/5G connection.
Fix: Turn off "Mobile Data" on your phone, then connect to the "WOLFBOX_X5_..." network. Default password is 12345678.
GPS Not Working / No Speed The GPS module is built into the mount on this unit.
Fix: Ensure the GPS mount is clicked fully into the top of the camera. If it's loose, it won't get a signal.
Rear Camera Not Recording Usually a loose cable or wrong port.
Fix: Make sure the rear cam is plugged into the dedicated rear port (not the USB power port). Check the cable run for pinches.
Random Reboots Classic sign of a dodgy SD card or insufficient power.
Fix: Try a different power cable (cigarette lighter vs hardwire) and swap the SD card.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I stop the screen from staying on while I drive?
Head into the settings and look for "Screen Saver." You can set it to turn off after 1 or 3 minutes. The camera is still recording; it just saves your eyes from the glare at night. Easy as.

2. Can I extend the rear camera cable?
We wouldn't recommend it. Extending the cable often causes signal dropouts or interference because the data signal is quite weak. If you've got a long rig, contact support for a specific long-cable version rather than splicing it yourself.

3. Why isn't Parking Mode working?
You absolutely need the Hardwire Kit for this. If you're just using the cigarette lighter charger, the camera turns off when the car does. Once hardwired, enable "Time Lapse" or "Collision Detection" in the menu.

4. How do I view the footage?
Two ways: Pop the SD card out and stick it in your PC (easiest for 4K files), or use the WOLFBOX App (Android or iOS). Remember to pause recording on the cam before trying to download files to your phone.
