Vantrue BT02 Bluetooth Remote User Manual & Setup Guide
Vantrue BT02 remote not responding? Lost the booklet? No stress.
The Vantrue BT02 Bluetooth Remote is a small button that lets you lock the current clip, grab a snapshot or mute the mic without reaching up behind the mirror. If it won't pair, has gone quiet, or you're just not sure which button does what, this guide has you covered.
💡 Pro Tip: A Locked Clip Is Only as Good as the Card
Every press of the lock button writes a protected event file. An old or slow microSD card is the most common reason those files come back corrupted or missing, so make sure you're running a proper high-endurance card.

Button Guide
| Button / Indicator | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Lock button | Press once to lock the current video segment so loop recording won't write over it. Holding it after a camera restart is also how you reconnect the remote (see below). |
| Photo button | Press to take a snapshot, handy for grabbing a still of a scene or a number plate. |
| Microphone button | Press to turn audio recording on or off without stopping video recording. |
| Green light on the remote | Lights when you press a button. No light at all usually means a flat battery. |
| Remote icon on the camera screen | Shows the remote is paired and connected to the dash cam. |
Pairing & Setup
- Pull out the battery tab. The CR2032 battery comes fitted, with a plastic tab stopping it from draining. Pull the tab out to power the remote up.
- Power on your dash cam and let it finish booting.
- Make sure the remote function is switched on in the camera. On the E1 Pro, for example, it's System Settings > Remote Controller, which is On by default.
- Press any button on the remote. The dash cam will search for it and pair automatically.
- Check for the remote icon on the camera screen. Once it shows, you're paired.
- Test each button while parked, then pick a spot you can reach without looking (wheel spoke, dash or console), clean the surface, peel the backing off the adhesive pad and press the remote down firmly. Keep it clear of airbags and anything that affects safe driving.
Battery Safety (From Vantrue's Warning Card)
⚠️ Ingestion hazard: the BT02 contains a CR2032 button battery. A swallowed button battery can cause serious internal chemical burns in as little as 2 hours, and can be fatal. Keep new and used batteries out of reach of children, and seek immediate medical attention if you think a battery has been swallowed or put inside any part of the body.
- Don't recharge, take apart, crush or heat the battery above 60°C, or throw it in a fire.
- Fit replacement batteries the right way round (+ and –), and don't mix old and new batteries.
- Take the battery out if you won't use the remote for a long time, and recycle used batteries (don't put them in household rubbish).
- If the battery cover won't close securely, stop using the remote and keep it away from children.
Common Questions & Troubleshooting
My brand-new remote does nothing at all.
Check the plastic battery pull tab has been removed. Until it's out, the battery isn't connected.
The remote was working and now nothing happens. What gives?
First look for the remote icon on the camera screen. If it's not there, restart the dash cam, and once it's powered back on, press and hold the lock button on the remote to reconnect.
How do I know if the battery is flat?
Press a button and watch for the green light on the remote. If it doesn't light up, swap in a fresh CR2032 coin cell. If it does light up but the camera ignores it, try moving the remote in case something nearby is causing interference.
How do I get the battery out?
Open the battery cover on the remote, pop out the old cell, fit the new CR2032 with the correct polarity and close the cover firmly.
I've got two Vantrue cams. Why is one ignoring the remote?
Vantrue notes the remote can end up connected to another Vantrue dash cam, which leaves the current one with no response. Restart the camera you want to use and press and hold the lock button to reconnect. If it still won't connect, contact us.
Will it work with my older Vantrue?
Only the models listed above are supported. If yours isn't there, voice control (on cameras that have it) or the lock button on the camera itself will do the same job.
Does locking a clip with the remote save the whole trip?
No, it locks the current video segment only. If you want footage from a few minutes earlier, get it off the card soon, before loop recording catches up with it.
Is it still not connecting?
Make sure your camera firmware is current (check Vantrue's manual and firmware page for your model), then give our team a shout and we'll help you sort it.
