Made for the VS1, and Nothing Else. The CPL-400 cuts windscreen glare at the lens

The VS1 is a tidy, discreet camera, and the thing most likely to spoil its footage is not the sensor but the windscreen in front of it. On a bright day your dashboard reflects straight back into the lens and the camera records the reflection over the road. A CPL filter blocks that polarised light optically. Fit it, rotate it once, and the glare goes.

Trusted AU store: We're an authorised AU reseller, shipping from Melbourne within 24 hours*. You get a 12-month warranty on this accessory, local technical support, and our 30-Day No-Worries returns.

Who This Isn't For: This is designed exclusively for the VIOFO VS1 and will not fit anything else in the range. A119 and A129 owners need the CPL-100; A329S, A229, A139 and T130 owners need the CPL-200 at the front. If you drive mostly after dark, a CPL costs you light and may not be worth fitting.

DCG Score & Highlights

What We Love

  • Purpose-made for the VS1 lens, so it seats cleanly without vignetting
  • Multi-resistant coating that resists scratches, fingerprints, oil and water
  • Removes the dashboard reflection that software cannot recover
  • Deeper colour and stronger contrast in harsh midday sun
  • Adds a sacrificial layer in front of the camera's own lens

What Could Be Better

  • It costs you roughly 1.3 to 2 stops of light, so night footage will be darker with it fitted.
  • VS1 only. It has no use if you later change camera.
  • Needs rotating correctly on install to do its job properly.

Why a CPL Filter Matters for Daytime Plate Capture

Most disappointing daytime footage is a glare problem, not a resolution problem. Light bouncing off your dashboard and the inside of the windscreen is polarised, and once it reaches the sensor it is part of the image permanently. A polarising filter removes it before that happens, which is why fitting one often does more for plate readability than upgrading the camera.

Top Benefits

  • Readable plates in bright sun: Cuts the reflected glare that washes plates out at midday.
  • No dashboard mirror: Stops your own dash appearing over the road ahead.
  • Better colour and contrast: Sky and road surfaces record with more depth.
  • Clearer on wet roads: Reduces the reflective sheen that hides detail after rain.
  • Lens protection: Takes the stone chips and cleaning marks instead of the camera.

FAQ

  • Q Will it fit my A119 or A229? A No - it aligns only with the VS1’s lens geometry. For other dash cameras see our CPL filter range.
  • Q Does it dim night footage? A Polarisation is minimal in low light, so after-dark performance remains virtually unchanged.
  • Q How do I stop it falling off in summer? A Clean the lens bezel with isopropyl, then add a micro-dot of 3M VHB tape for extra grip without tool-free removal.
