Kill the Dashboard Reflection on Your A119 or A129. The CPL-100 filter cuts glare before it reaches the sensor

Bright sun on a light-coloured dash and your windscreen turns into a mirror. The camera dutifully records the reflection instead of the road, and the plate you needed is a white smear. A CPL filter blocks that polarised light at the lens, which is the only place it can be fixed. Rotate it once on install and the reflections drop away.

Trusted AU store: We're an authorised AU reseller, shipping from Melbourne within 24 hours*. You get a 12-month warranty on this accessory, local technical support, and our 30-Day No-Worries returns.

Who This Isn't For: VIOFO CPL filters are not interchangeable between ranges. This one fits the A119 and A129 series only. For an A139, A229, A329 or T130 you need the CPL-200 at the front or the CPL-300 at the rear, and the VS1 takes the CPL-400. A CPL also costs you some light, so it is worth removing if you drive mostly at night.

DCG Score & Highlights

What We Love

  • Removes dashboard and windscreen reflections that no amount of software can recover
  • Deeper sky and road colour, with better contrast in harsh midday sun
  • Genuine VIOFO part, so it seats properly rather than vignetting the corners
  • Adds a layer of physical protection in front of the camera lens
  • Fits the whole A119 and A129 family including the Mini and Mini 2

What Could Be Better

  • A CPL reduces the light reaching the sensor, so night footage can look darker. Many owners fit one for summer and take it off in winter.
  • It needs rotating correctly on install. Set it wrong and you get little benefit.
  • Model-specific, and VIOFO's CPL numbering is easy to confuse.

Why a CPL Filter Matters for Daytime Plate Capture

Most people assume poor daytime footage is a resolution problem. Usually it is glare. Reflected light from your dashboard and the windscreen itself is polarised, and once it lands on the sensor no amount of megapixels or HDR will remove it. A polarising filter blocks that light optically, which is why a 2K camera with a CPL will often read a plate that a 4K camera without one cannot.

Top Benefits

  • Readable plates in bright sun: Cuts the reflected glare that washes out number plates at midday.
  • No dashboard mirror: Removes the reflection of your own dash from the footage.
  • Better colour and contrast: Skies and road surfaces record with more depth.
  • Clearer through wet roads: Reduces the sheen that hides detail after rain.
  • Lens protection: Takes the stone chips and cleaning marks instead of your camera.

FAQ

  • Q: Will it make night footage too dark? A: Most users see no significant brightness reduction; STARVIS sensors compensate for the minor light loss.
  • Q: How do I adjust the filter? A: Rotate while previewing on your dash cam screen until reflections fade; typically set-and-forget unless cabin mats or sun angle change.
  • Q: Can I leave it on year-round? A: Yes—the CPL-100 is rated for cabin temperatures from –20 °C to 85 °C and sealed against dust.
  • Q: Does it fit the rear camera? A: No—rear lenses require the CPL-300 or CPL-500 series.
