Navman MiVue Smart True 4K Surround vs Vantrue N4 Pro S
The Navman MiVue Smart True 4K Surround and the Vantrue N4 Pro S dash cam both record three cameras at once. They just aim the third camera at different things. Choose the Navman if you want safety camera alerts, a hardwire kit in the box and a three year warranty. Choose the N4 Pro S if you want the driver and front seats on camera, day and night.
In a hurry?
- Navman MiVue Smart True 4K Surround: suits commuters who want speed and red light camera alerts, and a side window view from the back of the car.
- Vantrue N4 Pro S: suits rideshare and delivery drivers, and anyone who wants a clear view of the front of the cabin at night.
Both are good cameras. Picking between them is mostly about where you want the third camera looking. Three cameras, one cable run to the back window, and roughly an afternoon of someone's life to fit it.

Are these two cameras actually comparable?
Yes, more than most pairings. Both record three channels, both record the road ahead in 4K at 30 frames per second, and both use a supercapacitor. A supercapacitor stores just enough power to save the last clip when the car switches off. It also copes with heat better than a small rechargeable battery.
The real difference is the third camera. Navman describes the Surround's third lens as an interior-facing camera housed inside the rear camera unit. It looks across the cabin and out the side windows, with a 170 degree view, to catch sideswipes and side impacts. The N4 Pro S puts its third camera in the front unit instead. It faces back at the driver and front passengers, with infrared lights for night.
The boxes differ too. Navman includes a 12V hardwire kit and a 64GB card. Vantrue includes neither, so budget for both.
One model note before you shop. Navman also sells an older camera called the MiVue True 4K PRO Surround, which is a different product with different specs. Everything on this page is about the Smart True 4K Surround. For the rest of the range, see our Navman MiVue range explained.

How to read this table. We have not tested these two cameras side by side, and we make no claim about which records clearer footage. Every figure comes from Navman's and Vantrue's own product pages and user manuals, checked on September 2026.
Where the Navman Surround wins
Safety camera alerts. This is the Navman's biggest advantage, and it is a real one. Navman lists speed-adjusted safety camera alerts, average speed zones with time and distance remaining, school zones, red light cameras, blackspots and railway crossings. The database updates free each month through the MiVue Pro app. We could not find anything similar in Vantrue's N4 Pro S manual.
More in the box. The Navman ships with a 12V hardwire kit for parking mode and a 64GB endurance card. With the N4 Pro S, both are extra purchases. Navman does state its kit is not for 24V vehicles, so truck drivers need a different plan.
A longer warranty. Navman states three years from the date of purchase. Vantrue offers 18 months.
A side window view from the back. The Surround's interior-facing lens covers 170 degrees from the rear window, which is aimed squarely at car park door dings and lane-change scrapes.
Where the Vantrue N4 Pro S wins
The front of the cabin is on camera. The N4 Pro S cabin camera looks back at the driver and front passenger, with four infrared lights so faces stay visible at night. For rideshare drivers, or anyone who wants a record of what happened inside the car, that is the view that matters.
Every sensor is named. Vantrue publishes the Sony sensor behind all three lenses, and an f/1.8 aperture on each. Navman names STARVIS 2 for the rear camera only and does not publish apertures. A named sensor does not prove better footage, but it lets you compare cameras on facts rather than marketing.
A wider front view. Vantrue lists 155 degrees up front against Navman's 120 degrees, so the N4 Pro S sees more of the lanes either side. The trade-off is that the same 4K picture gets spread across a wider scene.
Room for more footage. The N4 Pro S takes cards up to 1TB, against 256GB for the Navman. Three cameras fill a card quickly, and a bigger card holds more history before the oldest clips get recorded over. You can read more in our full Vantrue N4 Pro S review.
What neither camera does well
Serious heat. Vantrue rates the N4 Pro S to 60°C and advises switching it off at that cabin temperature. Navman's manual for the Smart True 4K range also lists 60°C as the maximum operating temperature. A car parked in full summer sun can climb past that, so a sunshade and a shady spot help either camera.
Frame rate. Neither offers anything above 30 frames per second on the front camera. A higher frame rate can help with fast-moving detail, so if that matters to you, look elsewhere.
Parking mode needs constant power. Both need hardwiring for full parking protection. Navman's manual also notes that the side camera does not record in time-lapse parking mode.
Fitting either one in an Australian car
Both cameras run a cable from the windscreen to a unit on the rear window, usually through the headliner and down a pillar. Keep that cable clear of the curtain airbags. Navman supplies an 8 metre cable to its rear unit. If you drive a ute with a canopy, check what a rear window camera will actually see before you commit.
For parking mode, the Navman kit comes in the box. For the N4 Pro S, Vantrue lists the Vantrue VP05 hardwire kit as compatible. Mounting rules for windscreen devices vary between states and territories. Keep the camera out of your line of sight and check your state's road rules.
A properly completed accessory installation does not automatically remove Australian Consumer Law rights. However, a manufacturer or dealer may dispute coverage for damage shown to have been caused by the installation. Check the vehicle documentation and use an appropriately qualified installer when required.
We do not install cameras ourselves. We keep a directory of independent dash cam installers, and you book and contract directly with them.
Who should buy which?
Choose the Navman MiVue Smart True 4K Surround if you want speed and red light camera alerts, you would rather have the hardwire kit and card in the box, or a three year warranty matters to you.
Choose the Vantrue N4 Pro S if you drive for rideshare or delivery, you want the driver and front seats recorded at night, or you want named sensors and room for a card up to 1TB. You can see it on the Vantrue N4 Pro S product page.
Choose neither if you want one stitched 360 degree view rather than separate cameras. That is a different design, and our Vantrue E360 review covers it.
Want a fourth camera? The Vantrue N5S
The Vantrue N5S keeps a cabin camera up front and adds a rear module with two lenses. One faces out the back window, and the other faces the rear seats with its own infrared lights. It is a similar idea to the interior lens in the Navman's rear unit, with the N4 Pro S front cabin camera on top.
There are trade-offs. Vantrue lists the N5S front camera at up to 1944p, which is below the 4K front on the N4 Pro S. The N5S also draws up to 10 watts against 7 watts for the N4 Pro S. That matters when it runs off your car battery overnight. Our Vantrue N5S review goes through it in detail.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Navman Smart True 4K Surround the same as the True 4K PRO Surround?
No. They are different cameras. Navman lists the PRO Surround in its outlet section while stocks last. The PRO calls its third lens a cabin camera and adds driver assistance alerts and voice commands. It ships with a 128GB card, needs a separately sold SmartBox for parking mode and carries a two year warranty. The specs on this page apply to the Smart True 4K Surround only.
What size memory card do I need for a three-camera dash cam?
Bigger is better, within what the camera supports. The Navman ships with a 64GB card and takes up to 256GB, and Navman's manual calls for U3 V30 cards. The N4 Pro S takes 32GB to 1TB U3 cards. Three cameras write a lot of video, so a larger card keeps more days of footage before loop recording overwrites the oldest clips.
Does the Navman Surround record when the car is parked?
Yes, once it is hardwired with the included kit. Navman's Integrated Smart Parking Mode can switch on automatically or on demand. You can set a cut-off voltage and an off timer to protect your car battery. In time-lapse parking mode, Navman states 10 minutes becomes a 20 second file, and the side camera does not record.
