Dongar PRO Parking Mode Adapter Support & User Manual Guide
Dongar PRO playing up? Lost the instructions? No stress.
The Dongar PRO parking mode dash cam adapter powers your camera from a factory connector (or your fuse box with the hardwire pack) and adds a simple three-position switch for ignition, timed and continuous power. This is our support hub for it: the modes and lights, choosing the right cable pack, installation, fixes for common hiccups, and the official instruction manuals to download at the bottom of the page.
🇦🇺 Important: Australian Fitment Is Different to the US
Dongar is an American company, and its compatibility charts and the vehicle lists in these manuals are for US-market cars. Australian-delivered vehicles can use different mirrors, trims, roof connectors and model trims, and some local models (like the HiLux and Prado) aren't on Dongar's charts at all. Dongar also notes that some international-market Mazdas use a different connector to the US versions.
Please don't choose a cable pack from a US chart alone. As Dongar's official Australian dealer, we match packs to Australian vehicles. Send us your make, model, year and trim, plus a photo of the back of your mirror and the plug behind the mirror cover (or your dome light area), and we'll confirm it before you buy or install.
How the Dongar PRO Works
- Power source: depending on the cable pack, the PRO connects at your rear-view mirror connector, the roof (dome light) connector on some Toyotas, or your fuse box using the hardwire pack.
- USB module: the harness connects to the PRO module with a small 3-pin plug. Your dash cam plugs into the module's USB-C port.
- Input: DC 12-24V (2A max).
- Output: USB-C, 5V 3A, 9V 2A or 12V 1.5A (18W max), negotiated automatically with your device.
- Protection: fixed 11.8V low-voltage cut-off, 4-hour timer in Timed mode, input fuse, over-current and over-voltage protection.
- Mounting: your choice. If there's room, tuck the module inside the mirror cover for a completely hidden install. Or stick it to the windscreen near the mirror with its adhesive pad, which keeps the mode switch and status light easy to reach and check.
The Three Power Modes
| Switch Position | Mode | What Happens When You Switch the Car Off |
|---|---|---|
| IGN | Ignition | Power to the dash cam stops. No parking recording. |
| T | Timed | Keeps powering the camera for up to 4 hours, or until the battery reaches 11.8V, whichever comes first. |
| ∞ | Continuous | Keeps powering the camera until the battery reaches the 11.8V cut-off. |
The golden rule: the car must be switched ON when you move the switch to T or ∞. Setting the switch with the car off won't start a parking session.
How long Continuous mode actually runs depends on your battery's age and charge, how much you drive versus park, and what else draws on the battery. Short trips and older batteries mean shorter parking time.
What the Light Means
| Light | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Solid red | Car is on and power is flowing to your dash cam (in any mode). |
| Blinking red | Car is off and the PRO is in Continuous mode. |
| Blinking green | Car is off and the PRO is in Timed mode. |
| Blinking blue | A shutdown event: the car was turned off in IGN mode, the 4-hour timer finished, the battery reached the low-voltage cut-off, or the PRO shut down to protect itself (over-voltage or over-current). |
What's in the Box
| Cable Pack | Connects At | Typical Contents |

| PMA-01 Toyota/Lexus | 5-pin roof/dome light connector (5A or 5C harness) or 10-pin mirror connector (10B harness) | PRO module, short USB-C cable, Toyota/Lexus harnesses, pry tool |
| PMA-02 Mazda | 10-pin mirror connector: 10A (exposed port on the back of the mirror) or 10E (inside the mirror cover) | PRO module, USB-C, Micro-USB and Mini-USB short cables, pry tool, 10A and 10E harnesses |
| PMA-04 Fuse Box Hardwire Kit | Your vehicle's fuse box (suits vehicles without a compatible factory connector) | PRO module, hardwiring cable (red, yellow, black), USB-C, Micro-USB and Mini-USB short cables, pry tool, 8 fuse taps (2 each of ATO, Mini, Low-Profile Mini and Micro2) |
Camera uses a barrel plug? You'll need a converter, such as our USB-C to DC cable. Need Micro or Mini-USB for a PMA-01 install? Grab the converter bundle.
Installation Overview
Every install finishes the same way: test before you close anything up. Turn the car on, confirm a solid red light and that your camera powers on, then refit the trim. Always follow the manual for your cable pack below.
Where to put the module: hide it inside the mirror cover if there's room, or stick it to the glass near the mirror for easy access. If you hide it, set your preferred mode (with the car on) before refitting the cover, because you won't be able to see the light or reach the switch easily afterwards.
Toyota/Lexus (PMA-01):
- Turn the car off.
- Roof connector (5A/5C): gently pull the dome light assembly down from the windscreen end, connect the 5-pin harness to the connector in the cavity, and route the lead through the headliner.
- Mirror connector (10B): tilt the mirror, remove the mirror cover panels, unplug the 10-pin mirror connector and fit the harness between the car's plug and the mirror.
- Plug the harness's 3-pin end into the PRO module and connect your dash cam. Test, then position the module (hidden or on the glass) and refit the trim.
⚠️ Toyota & Lexus warning: most Toyotas also have a 12-pin Toyota Safety Sense connector behind the mirror cover. Do not unplug it or connect to it. Using it can interfere with lane-keep and pre-collision systems. You're looking for the 10-pin mirror connector (or the 5-pin roof connector). If you're not sure which is which, send us a photo first.
Mazda (PMA-02):
- Turn the car off and tilt the mirror.
- Exposed port (10A): unclip the connector on the back of the mirror and fit the harness between it and the mirror.
- Shrouded mirror (10E): remove the left half of the mirror cover along the centre seam with the pry tool, press the locking tab to unplug the 10-pin connector, and fit the harness.
- Plug the 3-pin end into the PRO module, connect your camera and test. Then refit the cover with the module tucked inside (if there's room) or stick the module to the windscreen.
Fuse Box Hardwire Kit (PMA-04):
- Turn the car off and find your fuse box (use the one closest to your dash cam if there's more than one).
- Choose one constant power fuse and one ignition-on fuse. Avoid safety-critical circuits such as airbags and the horn.
- Pick the fuse taps that match your fuses. Put your car's original fuse in the lower slot of the fuse tap (the top fuse is pre-installed and protects the PRO), and only ever use the same amp rating as the original.
- Fix the black ground wire under a metal bolt on the chassis near the fuse box and tighten it.
- Connect the red wire to the constant power fuse tap and the yellow wire to the ignition fuse tap, with the plastic boots fully covering the metal.
- Plug the 3-pin end into the PRO module and test: car on in IGN gives solid red; switch to T (car on) then turn the car off for blinking green; switch to ∞ (car on) then turn off for blinking red.
- Route the cable up the pillar to the top of the windscreen, clear of airbags, then tuck the module inside the mirror cover if there's room or stick it to the glass near the mirror.
Not confident with fuse boxes or trim? Use a professional installer. Dongar notes the installer is responsible for any trim or wiring damage.
Common Questions & Troubleshooting
My dash cam won't power on.
Turn the car on and check the PRO's light. No light usually means a connector isn't fully clicked in, the harness doesn't suit your vehicle, or (for PMA-04) a fuse tap or ground isn't making contact. If the car hasn't been driven in the last 24 hours, drive it for at least 30 minutes and check again. If the light is on but the camera is dead, test the camera on its original power lead to rule out the camera, and check you're using the right cable.
My camera doesn't stay on after I turn the car off.
Check the switch is on T or ∞, and that you moved it there with the car switched on. Then check the light after switching off: blinking green or red means the PRO is still supplying power; blinking blue means it has shut down (see the light table). If the light goes out straight away on a mirror or roof install, your vehicle may be cutting power to that circuit, so contact us and we'll help you work out the best option, such as the fuse box hardwire pack.
The camera stopped recording overnight.
That's usually the PRO protecting your battery. In Timed mode it stops after 4 hours. In Continuous mode it stops when the battery reaches 11.8V. An older battery, lots of short trips or long parks will all shorten parking time. If you need longer, consider a dedicated dash cam battery pack.
My dash cam isn't switching into its own parking mode.
That's expected with some brands. Dongar says Viofo, Rove, RedTiger and 70mai cameras won't enter their built-in parking modes on the PRO and simply keep recording normally while parked. If you need your camera's own parking mode features, ask us about the best power option for your camera.
My camera switches off at traffic lights.
That's your car's engine start-stop cutting power to the circuit. It's normal behaviour, not a fault. You can turn start-stop off when you start the car, or use the fuse box hardwire pack instead.
The light is blinking blue. What does that mean?
The PRO has shut off power: either the car was turned off in IGN mode, the 4-hour timer ended, the battery hit the low-voltage cut-off, or it shut down to protect itself from over-voltage or over-current. Start the car and it should return to solid red. If it keeps shutting down unexpectedly, contact us.
I hid the module and now I can't change modes or see the light.
Pop the mirror cover off to reach it. If you change modes often, or want to check the light at a glance, stick the module to the glass near the mirror instead.
Will it flatten my battery?
The PRO cuts power at 11.8V to protect your starting battery, and Timed mode adds a 4-hour limit. Batteries that are old or rarely charged by longer drives may still struggle. If you park for days at a time, use Timed mode or get your battery tested.
Which dash cams work with it?
USB-C cameras connect directly. Micro-USB and Mini-USB cameras use a short converter cable, and RJ11 radar detectors need a USB-C to RJ11 cable. BlackVue cameras work with the USB-C to DC cable. Thinkware: Dongar warns against using its standard USB-C to DC cable with Thinkware cameras because their power port is wired differently, so check with us before connecting a Thinkware. Some older Garmin cameras need Garmin's own USB cable.
Something in my car isn't working properly since I installed it.
Unplug the PRO, reconnect your vehicle's original connector (or refit the original fuses), and contact us. If you're on a Toyota or Lexus, double-check you didn't unplug the Safety Sense connector.
Is this covered by warranty?
Yes, when bought from us as Dongar's authorised Australian dealer, your adapter is supported locally. If something isn't working, contact us rather than Dongar in the US and we'll look after you.
Still stuck?
Whatever the question, at any stage, get in touch with our team. A photo of your install and the module's light usually lets us sort it out quickly.
