Keep Recording While You're Parked with Dongar Pro. Parking mode power without a hardwire kit, a fuse tap or an auto electrician
You come back to the car park at Chadstone and there's a fresh dent in the door, with nobody around and no footage. The Dongar Pro fixes that without a fuse tap in sight. It draws power from your auto-dimming mirror harness like the Classic, then adds a three-position slider so your dash cam can stay awake after the ignition is off: run for a set window, run continuously, or stick to ignition-only. A built-in low-voltage cutoff watches the battery so you still start in the morning.
Before You Order: Let Us Check Your Fitment
Dongar publish their compatibility lists for the US market, and those lists do not translate cleanly to Australian-delivered vehicles. A US Tacoma is not our HiLux. Same badge, different loom, different mirror connector. We have seen it catch people out.
So don't guess, and don't work it out yourself. Send us four things and we will confirm the correct cable pack against Australian fitment data before you spend a cent:
- Year. For example, 2023
- Make. For example, Toyota
- Model. For example, RAV4
- Trim or variant. For example, GXL Hybrid AWD
Not sure of your trim? Send a photo of the connector behind your rear-view mirror instead. Matching the physical plug is the most reliable method there is.

Backed by our "No Worries" Fitment Guarantee. If we get it wrong, we make it right.
Trust this purchase: We're an authorised AU reseller, shipping from Melbourne within 24 hours*. You get a 12-month warranty, local technical support, and our 30-Day No-Worries returns.
Who This Isn't For: Your vehicle must have an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. If it doesn't, no mirror-tap adapter will work and you need a traditional hardwire kit instead. The Fusebox Hardwire Kit cable pack below covers exactly that case. Some vehicles are known exclusions even where the badge looks right, so the fitment check above matters. VIOFO owners should note the camera will keep recording while parked, but VIOFO's own Parking Mode will not trigger. And if you only ever want the camera running while you drive, save your money and stay with the Dongar Classic.
DCG Score & Highlights
What We Love
- The only plug-and-play mirror adapter that genuinely enables Parking Mode, with no fuse box required
- Three-position slider for Ignition, Timed up to 4 hours, or Continuous up to 36 hours on a healthy battery
- Automatic low-voltage cutoff protects your starting battery in every mode
- True 18W USB-C output with 5V, 9V and 12V rails to suit modern dash cams
- A pry tool in the box for shrouded-mirror vehicles, and a pre-applied adhesive pad on the module
- Key-fob-sized body hides inside the mirror shroud for an OEM-style finish
- Prefer a traditional install? The Fusebox Hardwire Kit pack gets you the same three modes via fuse taps
What Could Be Better
- Harness coverage is narrower than the Classic, and the published lists are US-market, so we verify Australian fitment for you
- Continuous runtime depends entirely on battery age and how often you drive, so an older battery will cut out well short of 36 hours
- VIOFO cameras record while parked but will not enter their native Parking Mode
- Two of the Toyota and Lexus harnesses are near-identical and the factory labelling is confusing. See below
- Which short USB leads ship with which pack varies, so tell us your camera and we'll check
Why Parked Protection Matters
Most dash cam claims come from a moving incident, but most unresolved damage happens while the car sits still. Trolley dings, car park scrapes and hit-and-runs leave no witness and no footage if the camera powers down with the ignition. Constant power is what turns a dash cam from a driving record into round-the-clock evidence, and a voltage cutoff is what stops that protection from flattening your battery.
How It Installs
There is no single procedure. The right one depends on your vehicle, which is one more reason to have us confirm your pack first. All three take minutes and none of them require a trip to an auto electrician.
- Rear-view mirror install. Tilt the mirror down, unclip the mirror's connector, plug the Dongar harness in between, and clip the original connector into the harness. Pass-through, and fully reversible.
- Roof-cavity install. Used on several newer Toyota-family vehicles. The dome-light assembly pulls down, a 5-pin connector sits inside the cavity, and the harness routes through the headliner.
- Fusebox hardwire install. For vehicles without a supported mirror connector. Three wires, being red for constant power, yellow for ignition-on power and black for ground, onto fuse taps. The kit supplies eight pre-fused taps in the four common sizes.
On Mazda, the harness changes depending on whether your rear-view mirror is shrouded or non-shrouded. Both harnesses are in the Mazda pack, so tell us which you have and we'll point you at the right one.
Two Warnings Worth Reading First
Do not unplug the Toyota Safety Sense connector. Most Toyotas carry a 12-pin Safety Sense connector near the mirror that is very easily mistaken for the mirror connection. It is not. Leave it alone and look instead for the additional 10-pin connector under the plastic shroud, or the 5-pin connector in the roof cavity. Unplugging the Safety Sense loom can disturb your driver-assist systems.
The Toyota and Lexus harness labels don't match their names. The pack contains two near-identical 3-pin harnesses. The 5A harness is printed "3-Pin harness 5A" and the 5C harness is printed "3-Pin harness 5B". The 5A is for roof-cavity installs, the 5C is for the Camry, and the 10B harness is for rear-view mirror installs. If you're unsure which one your car wants, ask us rather than guessing.
What's In The Box
Every cable pack includes: the Dongar Pro USB module with a pre-applied adhesive pad, a small pry tool for shrouded-mirror vehicles, and short USB power leads.
Mirror-tap packs add the vehicle-specific wiring harnesses for that family. The Toyota and Lexus pack ships three, being the 5A, 5C and 10B. The Mazda pack ships two, being the 10-Pin Type A for non-shrouded mirrors and the 10-Pin Type E for shrouded mirrors.
The Fusebox Hardwire Kit pack instead adds a 3-wire hardwiring cable, being red for constant power, yellow for ignition-on power and black for ground, plus eight fuse taps with fuses pre-installed: two each of ATO regular, Micro2, Mini and Low-Profile Mini. That covers virtually every fuse box in the country without a second trip to the parts shop.
Which short USB leads are supplied varies by pack. Tell us which camera you're powering and we'll make sure you have the right lead, or grab one of our short converter leads. Cameras with a DC barrel plug need our USB-C to DC converter cable.
Reading The Light
The LED on the module tells you which mode you're in, which saves a lot of guessing after install:
- Solid red. Ignition mode. The camera runs with the car.
- Pulsing green. Timed mode. The camera keeps running after shutdown, up to about 4 hours.
- Pulsing red. Continuous mode. The camera keeps running until the low-voltage cutoff steps in.
Top Everyday Benefits
- Evidence while parked: Your camera keeps watching after you walk away, so a car park hit is recorded instead of guessed at.
- You choose the trade-off: Slide to Ignition, Timed or Continuous depending on whether you're parked at home overnight or at the airport for a week.
- Battery peace of mind: The cutoff steps in before the battery drops too far, so you're not calling roadside assist on Monday morning.
- Hardwire results without hardwiring: No fuse taps, no A-pillar trim, no auto electrician on the mirror-tap packs. Typical fitment is 5 to 10 minutes.
- Powers the modern stuff: 18W USB-C with multi-voltage output handles cameras that older 5V-only adapters struggle with.
- Reversible and warranty-friendly: A pass-through connection you can undo before trade-in, with all mirror functions untouched.
- Australian fitment, checked by Australians: We match your exact Year, Make, Model and Trim before you order.

FAQ
FAQ
- Q: Will Dongar's US fitment guide work for my Australian car? A: Not reliably, and this is the main thing to get right. Dongar is a US company and its compatibility lists are built around US-market vehicles and trim names. Australian-delivered cars regularly use a different mirror connector to their American equivalent, and some US models are not sold here at all. Do not work it out yourself. Email your Year, Make, Model and Trim to gday@dashcamguys.com.au and we will confirm the correct pack against Australian fitment data before you order.
- Q: What if I am not sure of my trim, or cannot find it? A: Send us a photo of the connector behind your rear-view mirror instead. Ease the plastic shroud off the base of the mirror and photograph the plug. Matching the physical connector is the most reliable method there is.
- Q: Does it really enable Parking Mode? A: Yes. Slide the switch to T or to the infinity symbol and the adapter keeps supplying power after the ignition is off, so your camera can keep recording while you are parked.
- Q: Will it flatten my battery? A: It is designed not to. An automatic low-voltage cutoff powers the camera down once it senses the battery has reached its threshold, and it is active in every mode. That said, battery health matters. An older battery, or a car that only does short trips, will hit the cutoff much sooner than a healthy one.
- Q: How long will it record while parked? A: Up to 4 hours in timed mode, and up to 36 hours in continuous mode on a new, healthy battery. Treat 36 hours as a best case rather than an expectation.
- Q: What do the lights on the module mean? A: Solid red is ignition mode, pulsing green is timed mode, and pulsing red is continuous mode. If there is no light at all, the harness is most likely not seated properly. Get in touch and we will talk you through it.
- Q: Which harness do I use in a Toyota or Lexus? A: The pack ships three, and the printed labels do not match the harness names, which catches people out. The 5A harness is printed '3-Pin harness 5A' and the 5C harness is printed '3-Pin harness 5B'. The 5A is for roof-cavity installs, the 5C is for the Camry, and the 10B is for rear-view mirror installs. Ask us and we will tell you which one your car takes.
- Q: Is there a connector I should not unplug? A: Yes. Most Toyotas have a 12-pin Toyota Safety Sense connector near the mirror that is easily mistaken for the mirror connection. Do not unplug it. Look instead for the additional 10-pin connector under the shroud, or the 5-pin connector in the roof cavity.
- Q: Which pack do I need if my mirror is shrouded? A: On Mazda it changes the harness. The 10-Pin Type E is for shrouded mirrors and the 10-Pin Type A is for non-shrouded. Both are in the Mazda pack, and the included pry tool is there to help you get the shroud off.
- Q: What if my car has no auto-dimming mirror? A: Then none of the mirror-tap packs will work, but the Fusebox Hardwire Kit pack will. It gives you the same three power modes through the fuse box and includes eight pre-fused taps covering the four common fuse sizes.
- Q: Which dash cams are compatible? A: Most USB-powered models, via a short device lead to suit your camera's port. Cameras with a DC barrel plug need our USB-C to DC converter cable instead. VIOFO cameras are a special case: they will keep recording while parked, but the camera's own Parking Mode will not trigger.
- Q: How is it different from the Dongar Classic? A: Parking Mode is the difference. The Classic powers your camera only while the ignition is on. The Pro adds timed and continuous modes plus the low-voltage cutoff that makes them safe to use. Both deliver 18W USB-C on their current harnesses, so this is about when the camera runs, not how much power it gets.
- Q: Will it affect my mirror? A: No. On the mirror-tap packs it is a pass-through connection, so auto-dimming, compass and any other mirror functions carry on as normal. Nothing is cut or spliced and it can be removed completely.
- Q: What is in the box? A: The Pro module with a pre-applied adhesive pad, a small pry tool, the wiring harnesses for the pack you choose, and short USB power leads. Which leads ship with which pack varies, so tell us which camera you are powering and we will make sure you have the right one.
