Who This Isn't For: If your camera needs a barrel plug, or you want it recording while the car is parked, the Classic is not the right pick. It powers with the ignition only. For Parking Mode you need a hardwire kit that provides constant power.

Australian Fitment: Which Harness Do You Need?

This is the part that trips people up, so read it before you order. Dongar is a US company and its online fit finder is built around US-market vehicles. You will see trim names there that were never sold here, and Australian-delivered cars regularly ship with a different mirror connector to their American twin. We have built the list below from Australian vehicles, and we would rather you asked us than guessed.

The only reliable method is to look at the plug, not the badge. Ease the plastic shroud off the base of your mirror, photograph the connector, and match it below. If you are not sure, send us the photo and we will identify it for you.

• Harness 3A (3-pin Type A) - Subaru and Toyota 86: The connector lives in the overhead console or dome-light cavity, not at the mirror. Suits Subaru models up to around 2017, plus the Subaru BRZ and the Toyota 86 from 2013 on. Note for Australia: Dongar's own chart lists this as the "GR86", but the same car was sold here as the Toyota 86 from 2012, and both generations use this port.
• Harness 3B (3-pin Type B) - Ford: The connector is at the base of the mirror, under the plastic shroud. The Ford Ranger is the common Australian fit.
• Harness 3B5F (Ford twin pack) - the safe choice for Ford owners: This pack contains two harnesses, the 3-pin Type B and the 5-pin Type F, so it covers both of the connectors Ford uses. If you drive a Ford and cannot get the shroud off to check, buy this one and you are covered either way.
• Harness 3V (3-pin Type V) - Volvo and Polestar: Volvo and Polestar from around 2014 on. The connector sits at the base of the mirror under the shroud, or can be reached from the maplight cavity.
• Harness 3M (3-pin Mercedes) - Mercedes-Benz: Mercedes-Benz from around 2019 on. This one is different to the others: it connects to the rain-sensor module mounted on the windscreen rather than to the mirror itself.

Driving something not on this list? Australian Fords, Hyundais, Kias, Mazdas, Subarus and Toyotas often do have a usable mirror port, we just will not claim a fit we have not confirmed on an Australian car. Send us a photo of your plug and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

Power Output: Check Which Module You Are Getting

Dongar has updated this product over time and the two module generations do not deliver the same power. It matters if you are running a 4K camera with a rear channel.

• Harnesses 3B, 3B5F and 3V ship with the current 18W USB-C module. Input 12 to 24V, 2A max. Output is dynamic: 5V at 3A, 9V at 2A, or 12V at 1.5A, so it will run power-hungry dual and triple channel cameras.
• Harness 3A ships with the earlier USB-A module. Input 10 to 30V, 1.8A max. Output 4.75 to 5.25V at up to 2.4A. Plenty for a single or dual channel camera, but it is 5V only.
• Harness 3M is the newest addition and Dongar has not published a spec sheet for it. Ask us before ordering if your camera has an unusual power draw.
