Why a Readable Rear Camera Matters

A rear camera is only useful if it can identify the car that hit you. In a rear-end collision or a hit and run in a car park, the other vehicle is behind you, often at night, with its headlights pointed straight into your rear lens.

A small rear sensor without HDR tends to fail in exactly that moment: the headlights flare, the plate between them turns to a white smear, and the footage shows that something happened without showing who. The A229 Pro 2CH uses the 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 at the back, recording 2K with HDR, which balances the bright headlights against the darker plate so the characters stay legible. The trade-off is storage. 4K plus 2K footage fills a card quickly, so a small card loops over older clips sooner. Storage is the tax you pay for detail.

How Does the A229 Pro 2CH Install?

1. Stick the front camera behind the rear-view mirror and tuck its power lead into the headlining, using the trim tool in the box.
2. Run the 6-metre rear cable along the headlining and down to the rear window, then fix the rear camera to the glass.
3. Power it from the 12V socket with the included car charger, or hardwire it to the fuse box with the HK4 kit if you want parking mode.
4. Insert and format a microSD card in the camera, then pair the VIOFO app to set the time, GPS and recording options.

The plug-in route needs no tools beyond the trim tool. Hardwiring means finding a switched and a constant fuse, and a circuit tester makes that far easier.
