Hybrid Parking Mode on the A149 Pro Starts With This Cable. The VIOFO HK6-A wires your camera to the fuse box over USB-C

Parking mode only works if the camera keeps drawing power after you walk away, and the 12V socket in most cars goes dead the moment you pull the key. On the A149 Pro it goes further than that: VIOFO states that Hybrid Parking Recording and Cut-off Voltage both require this hardwire kit. Without it you have a camera that records while you drive and sleeps while you are parked.

Trusted AU store: We're an authorised Australian reseller, shipping from Melbourne within 24 hours*. You get a 12-month warranty on this accessory, local technical support, and our 30-Day No-Worries returns.

Who This Isn't For: This is an A149 Pro cable. If you run an A329S, A229 Ultra or A119M Pro, the kit you want is the VIOFO HK6 instead. It is also a fuse box job, so if you would rather not go near the fuse box, an OBD or mirror-tap power option suits you better. This is for A149 Pro owners who want the parked recording the camera was designed around.

Check Before You Order

  • Fuse taps are not included in this version. Australian-delivered cars use a mix of ATO, Mini, Micro2 and Low Profile Mini blades, and our 8-Piece Fuse Tap Kit covers all four.
  • You need an ACC circuit. Some newer vehicles, several EVs included, have no switched fuse in the cabin fuse box. If that is your car, read No ACC Fuse? Why Dash Cam Parking Mode Fails in Newer Cars first.
  • The camera is sold separately. This is the power cable only.

DCG Highlights

What We Love

  • It is the part that turns on Hybrid Parking Mode and Cut-off Voltage on the A149 Pro, which VIOFO says do not work without it
  • A true ACC wire rather than voltage guessing, so the camera switches to parking mode the moment the ignition drops
  • Four cut-off levels on the unit, so the draw stops before the battery is in trouble rather than after
  • Bluetooth voltage broadcast with no pairing, so your battery voltage is written onto the recorded video instead of chased with a multimeter
  • Rated by VIOFO at 300uA or less with the camera off, which is what makes leaving it connected for a fortnight reasonable
  • 12V to 24V input, so the same kit suits a hatchback, a ute or a truck
  • Detachable input and output leads, which makes the run behind the trim easier to pull through

Good to Know

  • Fuse taps are not included in this version. Order the blade size your fuse box uses.
  • It is a model-specific cable for the VIOFO A149 Pro. On another camera you are buying a plug that will not suit it.
  • Set the camera's Cut-off Voltage slightly higher than the level selected on the cable. That is VIOFO's own recommendation and it is the setting people get backwards.
  • VIOFO does not publish the HK6-A cut-off voltages or the cable length. We will add both here once we have confirmed them from a unit rather than quoting HK6 figures at you.
  • Installation access: interior trim has to come off to route the cable and reach an earth point.

Why an ACC Wire Beats Voltage Guessing

A two-wire kit only has constant power to work with, so it decides you have parked by watching the voltage drop when the alternator stops. That works until it does not: a long idle, a stop-start system or a cold morning can all look like a parked car, and the camera either changes mode while you are still driving or stays awake long after you have left. The HK6-A takes a third wire from a fuse that is only live with the ignition on, so the camera gets a direct answer instead of an inference. The trade-off is honest: you tap two fuses instead of one, which is more work at install time.

Top Benefits

  • The features you paid for: Hybrid Parking Recording and Cut-off Voltage on the A149 Pro need this kit to function.
  • Parked cover that starts on time: ACC sensing tells the camera the engine has stopped instead of leaving it to read a voltage dip.
  • Battery you can still start on: four cut-off levels end the draw before the battery is flat.
  • Voltage on the footage: the Bluetooth broadcast writes the battery reading onto the video, so you know whether your setting is right.
  • Cars, utes and trucks: the 12V to 24V range covers both system voltages.

How It Installs

  1. Find the cabin fuse box and identify one constant fuse and one switched (ACC) fuse with a circuit tester, checking with the ignition off, then on.
  2. Fit an add-a-circuit fuse tap of the correct blade size to each, keeping the original fuse in the lower slot.
  3. Earth the black wire to a bare metal bolt on the chassis, not to a painted panel.
  4. Route the USB-C lead up the A-pillar and along the headlining, tucked behind the trim.
  5. Set the cut-off level, then confirm the camera powers up with the ignition and enters parking mode when you switch off.

Tools: a trim removal tool, a circuit tester and a spanner for the earth bolt. Allow roughly 45 to 90 minutes for a confident DIYer. We do not install cameras ourselves, but you can find someone local in our directory of independent installers. They are independent businesses, so you book and contract directly with them.

What's in the Box

  • VIOFO HK6-A hardwire cable, USB-C output, with detachable input and output leads
  • Fuse taps: not included in this version
  • Camera and memory card: not included

Fitment & Compatibility

  • Camera: VIOFO A149 Pro.
  • Not compatible with: the A329S, A329T, A229 Ultra and A119M Pro, which take the HK6, the T330 and T340, which take the HK6-F, and any mini-USB VIOFO such as the A119 V3 or the A129 family.
  • Vehicle: 12V and 24V systems, provided the cabin fuse box has both a constant and a switched circuit you can tap.
  • Australian fitment: VIOFO publishes no vehicle list for this kit, and fuse box layouts on Australian-delivered cars often differ from overseas ones. Email a photo of your open fuse box and its lid diagram to gday@dashcamguys.com.au and we will tell you which blade size you need before you order.

Power Your A149 Pro Properly

Add the VIOFO HK6-A if you want the A149 Pro watching the car while it is parked rather than only while you drive, and add the 8-Piece Fuse Tap Kit if you do not already have the right blade size for your fuse box. Ships from Melbourne within 24 hours*, covered by our 30-Day No-Worries returns.

FAQ

  • Q: Which VIOFO hardwire kit do I need? A: The one matched to your camera. The HK6-A is for the A149 Pro. The HK6 covers the A329S, A329T, A229 Ultra and A119M Pro, the HK6-F is for the T330 and T340, and older mini-USB cameras like the A119 V3 and A129 take the Mini HK3. A kit with the wrong plug will not fit, and a two-wire kit will not switch modes the same way.
  • Q: Do I really need this for Hybrid Parking Mode? A: Yes. VIOFO states that Hybrid Parking Recording and Cut-off Voltage on the A149 Pro require this hardwire kit. Hybrid mode switches the camera between normal parked recording and low-power impact detection based on your cut-off voltage and cut-off time, and none of that runs off the cigarette lighter lead in the box.
  • Q: Will this drain my car battery? A: Not on its own. The kit is rated at 300uA or less with the camera off, and four cut-off levels stop the supply before the battery drops too far. What flattens a battery is a camera recording for days on a small or older one, so pick a cut-off level you are comfortable with and watch the voltage on your footage for the first week.
  • Q: What should I set the camera's cut-off voltage to? A: VIOFO recommends setting the camera's Cut-off Voltage slightly higher than the level selected on the cable itself, so the camera shuts down cleanly before the cable cuts power. People often set it the other way round and then wonder why recordings end abruptly.
  • Q: Do I need to buy fuse taps separately? A: Yes. This version ships without them. You need an add-a-circuit tap in the blade size your fuse box uses, and Australian-delivered cars use several. Our 8-Piece Fuse Tap Kit covers ATO, Mini, Micro2 and Low Profile Mini so the job does not stop halfway.
  • Q: Can I install this myself? A: Most people can, with a circuit tester, a trim removal tool and about an hour. You need to identify a constant fuse and a switched fuse, fit a tap to each and earth the black wire to bare metal. We do not install cameras ourselves. There are independent installers listed in our directory if you would rather not do it.
  • Q: What if my car has no ACC fuse? A: Some newer vehicles and EVs have a cabin fuse box that is all constant power, so there is no switched circuit to tap and the third wire has nowhere to go. Email your year, make, model and trim to gday@dashcamguys.com.au and we will tell you what will work in your car before you buy.
  • Q: Does it work in a 24V truck? A: Yes. The input range is 12V to 24V, so the same kit suits a car, a ute or a heavy vehicle. Set the cut-off level to suit your system rather than leaving it where it arrived.
  • Q: I am replacing an old HK6-A. Anything to watch? A: Reset the camera to its default settings so it pairs with the new cable's Bluetooth broadcast. VIOFO calls this out specifically, and without it the voltage display can keep looking for the old unit.
