Three Channels, Two Cameras to Mount. The VIOFO T340W 3CH puts the cabin camera inside the front unit and the rear camera outside in the weather

A three-channel dash cam normally means three modules and three cable runs, and the cabin one is always the awkward job: another box on the glass and another lead tucked into the headlining. Then there is the rear. Fit a conventional rear camera to a dual-cab with a canopy, a van with no rear window or a wagon packed to the roof, and that channel spends its life filming the inside of your own vehicle.

Trusted AU store: We're an authorised Australian reseller, shipping from Melbourne within 24 hours*. You get an 18-month warranty with no product registration required, local technical support, and our 30-Day No-Worries returns.

Who This Isn't For: The cabin camera is fixed inside the front unit behind the mirror, so you cannot move it, angle it at the back seats or run it down the headlining, and it uses an OmniVision OS04J10 sensor rather than the Sony STARVIS 2 that the front and rear channels get. If you want the cabin camera on its own cable and a 4K rear rather than 2K, take the VIOFO A229 Ultra W 3-CH. This one is for drivers who want the cabin covered with the least hardware on the windscreen.

Check Before You Order: This Is the 8 m Waterproof Rear Cable Version

VIOFO builds the T340W 3CH with four rear cable lengths. We stock one, the 8 m option, which suits most Australian cars, utes, vans and small trucks.

  • What 8 m means: the extension cable in the box measures 7.5 m, the rest being the camera lead.
  • No cabin cable to run: the interior camera is part of the front unit, so there is no third lead and no second mounting point.
  • Longer runs: the 10 m and 15 m rear cables for trailers and long-wheelbase trucks are not stocked here. If your run is much over 7 m, talk to us before you order.

DCG Highlights

What We Love

  • The cabin camera is built into the front unit with its own infrared LEDs, so a three-channel install needs two mounting points instead of three and nothing extra appears on the windscreen
  • The rear camera is the RWC400, an IP67 waterproof module, so it screws to the tailgate, above the number plate or beside a roof aerial and keeps working through rain, dust and the wash bay
  • Sony STARVIS 2 sensors on both road-facing channels, an IMX678 up front and an IMX675 at the rear, which is why plates stay readable after dark rather than turning to grain
  • A 210 degree cabin lens is wide enough to take in both front seats and both side windows at once, which is the frame a rideshare driver actually needs
  • HDR runs on all three channels, so headlights at night and hard backlighting at dusk do not wash out the detail that identifies a vehicle
  • No screen and a body that sits behind the mirror, so there is nothing to glance at while driving and nothing obvious to anyone looking into a parked car

Good to Know

  • Parking mode of any kind needs the VIOFO HK6-F hardwire kit, bought separately. The car charger in the box runs the camera while the engine is running and nothing more.
  • No memory card is supplied, and three channels of 4K and 2K fill a card quickly. Budget for a high-endurance 256 GB or 512 GB card at the same time.
  • The waterproof rear camera mounts outside the vehicle, so the cable needs an existing grommet or a drilled pass-through. That is a proper install, not a stick-and-go.
  • With no screen, first setup and all playback happen through the VIOFO app on your phone.

Why a Built-In Cabin Camera Changes the Install

A conventional three-channel dash cam splits the job across three separate cameras, and the interior one is the module that causes the trouble. It needs its own position on the glass or the headlining, its own cable tucked behind trim, and enough clearance that it is not sitting in the driver's eyeline. The T340W removes that decision by moving the interior camera inside the front housing, behind a 210 degree fisheye lens with its own infrared LEDs. Two cameras go on the vehicle and three channels get recorded. The trade-off is fixed framing: the cabin view is whatever the front unit's position gives you, so where you place that unit now decides two channels instead of one.

Top Benefits

  • Less hardware on the glass: the cabin camera lives inside the front unit, so a three-channel install puts two cameras on the vehicle instead of three.
  • Rear cover that works: the IP67 RWC400 mounts outside, so a canopy, a tray or a loaded boot no longer blocks the rear channel.
  • Passengers and side windows in frame: the 210 degree lens with infrared LEDs covers both front seats and both side windows, day or night.
  • Readable plates after dark: Sony STARVIS 2 sensors front and rear with HDR on every channel hold detail against headlights instead of blooming out.
  • One file, three angles: merged multi-channel export means the footage you hand over is a single synchronised video, not a folder of clips to explain.
  • Parking cover that protects the battery: add the HK6-F and hybrid recording drops back to low-power impact detection at the cut-off you set.

How It Installs

  1. Mount the front unit behind the mirror on the supplied bracket, using a windscreen static sticker so the adhesive is not going onto glass, then fit the magnetic CPL-700 filter.
  2. Check the cabin framing in the VIOFO app before you commit to the position. The interior lens is fixed in the front unit, so this step sets two channels at once.
  3. Mount the waterproof rear camera outside with the two supplied screws and route the 7.5 m cable through an existing grommet where you can find one. This step decides how long the job takes.
  4. Power it from the supplied 3.5 m car charger for drive-only recording, or fit the HK6-F to the fuse box if you want parking mode.
  5. Fit the tamper-resistant cover with its four screws and the hex key, then finish the setup in the app.

Allow around forty-five minutes in a car you know, longer on a ute or van. We do not install cameras ourselves, but you can find someone local in our directory of independent installers. They are independent businesses, so you book and contract directly with them.

What's in the Box

  • T340W front unit with built-in infrared cabin camera and bracket, RWC400 waterproof rear camera with 2 screws
  • Waterproof rear extension cable 7.5 m, dual-port car charger 3.5 m, Type-C data cable 0.5 m
  • CPL-700 magnetic front filter, infrared cabin camera cover, tamper-resistant cover with 4 screws and a hex key
  • Spare mount sticky pads, windscreen static stickers, warning sticker, trim removal tool, quick start guide and service card
  • Not included: microSD card, hardwire kit, BTR200 remote and BP100 or BP60 battery pack are all sold separately

Fitment and Compatibility

  • Vehicles: any 12 V or 24 V vehicle. The exterior rear camera suits dual-cab utes with canopies or trays, vans without rear glass, and camper or 4WD builds.
  • Rear camera mounting: external only. The RWC400 screws to bodywork, a plate surround or a roof bar, and is not made to stick inside glass.
  • Cabin camera: fixed inside the front unit. It cannot be relocated, extended or aimed separately from the front camera.
  • Parking mode: requires the HK6-F, the only hardwire kit for the T330 and T340 series. Earlier HK3 and HK4 kits do not fit.
  • Replacement rear camera: the VIOFO RWC400, the same IP67 module supplied in the box.
  • Accessories: VIOFO BTR200 Bluetooth remote, and the BP100 or BP60 battery packs for parking mode on their own power, all sold separately.
  • Storage: microSD only, up to 512 GB. No external SSD support.
  • Not compatible with: rear cameras from the A129, A139 and A229 families, the CPL-200 and CPL-300 filters, and any hardwire kit but the HK6-F.
  • Australian fitment note: VIOFO's mounting photography is shot on left-hand-drive cars. The hardware is identical here, but the tidy cable path runs down the opposite A-pillar to the one in their images.

FAQ

  • Q: Can I move the cabin camera somewhere else, or put it on a longer cable? A: No. This is the question we expect most often on the T340W. The interior camera is part of the front unit, not a separate module, so there is no cabin cable and no second position to choose. Whatever the front unit sees of the cabin is what you get. If you need the interior camera on its own lead so you can aim it at the back seats or the sleeper of a truck, choose a model with a separate cabin module instead.
  • Q: Is a 3 channel dash cam worth it? A: It depends on whether anyone else gets in the car. If you drive alone in a private vehicle, two channels covering the road ahead and behind will usually do the job for less money. The third channel earns its place when you carry passengers for money, run a work vehicle someone else drives, or want a record of what was said and done inside the cabin as well as outside it.
  • Q: What is the difference between a 2 channel and a 3 channel dash cam? A: A two-channel records forward and rearward. A three-channel adds an interior view. On the T340W that third channel is a 210 degree infrared lens inside the front unit, wide enough to take in both front seats and both side windows, and it records at 2K alongside the 4K front and the 2K waterproof rear.
  • Q: Does a dash cam reduce my insurance premium? A: Not reliably in Australia. A small number of insurers offer a modest discount, most do not, and no camera can determine how a claim is decided. What the footage does is give your insurer a clear record of what happened, which often shortens an argument about fault. Ask your own insurer before you count on a discount.
  • Q: Do I need the HK6-F hardwire kit? A: Only if you want recording while the engine is off. The supplied car charger powers the camera whenever the vehicle is running. All five parking modes need the VIOFO HK6-F, which also adds the cut-off voltage protection and reports your battery voltage to the app over Bluetooth. It is the only hardwire kit that fits the T330 and T340 series.
  • Q: What size memory card should I buy? A: A high-endurance 256 GB or 512 GB card. No card ships with this camera, and three channels at 4K and 2K produce a lot of data, so a 128 GB card fills in roughly a day of driving before loop recording starts overwriting. Add parking mode and it fills faster again. The camera takes microSD cards up to 512 GB.
  • Q: Do I have to tell passengers they are being recorded? A: In most Australian states you should. Surveillance device laws differ between states and territories, and the cabin camera records audio as well as video. A visible sticker is the usual approach and one is supplied in the box. If you carry passengers for work, check the rules for your state and with your rideshare or fleet operator.
  • Q: Can I stop the cabin camera recording when I am off the clock? A: Use the infrared cabin camera cover supplied in the box. It fits over the interior lens and blocks that view while the front and waterproof rear channels keep recording. That is the method VIOFO documents for this model, and it is the one we would use on a shared or family vehicle.
  • Q: Will it work in a 24 V truck, and how far does the rear cable reach? A: Yes to the voltage. The camera takes 5 V, and both the supplied charger and the HK6-F accept 12 V and 24 V vehicle systems. Reach is the real limit. The 8 m version we stock ships a 7.5 m extension cable, which covers cars, utes, vans and small trucks but will not reach the back of a prime mover or a trailer.
  • Q: Which cable lengths do you stock? A: One: the 8 m waterproof rear option, which ships a 7.5 m extension cable. VIOFO also builds 3 m, 10 m and 15 m versions of this camera and we do not stock those. Email us at gday@dashcamguys.com.au before ordering if your rear run is much longer than 7 m and we will tell you honestly whether it will reach.
