Good to Know

• Mounting outside is a longer install. The waterproof cable has to enter the vehicle through a grommet or a sealed entry point. VIOFO makes that cable in 7.5m, 9.5m and 14.5m lengths, so measure your run and ask us which length is in stock.
• Driving rideshare? Victoria and Queensland transport rules restrict cameras that record inside rideshare cars. Read our rideshare dash cam laws guide before you switch the cabin camera on.
• Parking mode needs a hardwire kit, sold separately. The VIOFO HK4 does not offer Low Power Parking Mode.
• All three channels record at 30fps, and the cabin records 1080p, in black and white while the infrared is on. Budget for a 512GB card, not included.

Why Does a Work Vehicle Need an Exterior Rear and a Cabin Camera?

A work vehicle needs both because its two blind spots sit where a standard front and rear kit cannot reach. An interior rear camera looks through the back window, and on a canopy ute or a van with solid doors there is nothing useful to see. Inside, a front camera records the road, not the passenger who says you took the long way.

The VIOFO A229 Ultra W 3CH moves the rear camera outside, where its IP67 housing handles the weather and its 8MP sensor records 4K with HDR. Inside, the cabin camera's 210° lens and four infrared LEDs keep the whole interior on record, day or night. The trade-offs are the install, the upkeep and the cabin image. The rear cable needs a sealed entry, an outside lens needs an occasional wipe, and 1080p infrared footage shows people and actions clearly rather than fine detail. How Does the A229 Ultra W 3CH Install?

1. Stick the front camera and GPS mount behind the rear-view mirror and tuck the power lead into the headlining with the trim tool in the box.
2. Fix the cabin camera to the windscreen beside the front unit, aimed back into the cabin, and connect it with the 1-metre interior camera cable.
3. Fix the waterproof rear camera to the outside of the vehicle, above the plate, on the tailgate or under the roofline, using the 3M adhesive or the two screws supplied.
4. With the front camera switched off, route the waterproof rear camera cable into the cabin through a grommet or sealed entry point, then along the headlining to the front camera.
5. Power it from the 12V socket with the included car charger, or hardwire it with the HK4 kit for parking mode, then format a microSD card and pair the VIOFO app.

The exterior cable run is the slow part. On a canopy ute or a van it often means finding a factory grommet or adding a sealed one, so allow extra time for it or hand that step to an installer.
