Vantrue Element 2 Pro (E2 Pro) User Manual & Setup Guide

Just unboxed your Vantrue E2 Pro? Here's how to get it sorted.

You have gone with the Vantrue Element 2 Pro, a cracking two-channel unit with 4K up front and 2K out the back. This Vantrue E2 Pro user manual guide covers the first-time setup, the settings worth changing, and the quick fixes for the hiccups we hear about most, so you are recording clean proof from day one.

First-time setup in five minutes

1. Insert and format the memory card. The E2 Pro takes a high-endurance U3 microSD card (high-endurance means it is built for the constant re-writing a dash cam does all day). A Vantrue 128 GB high-endurance card is a great fit. Always format the card in the camera menu before your first drive, not on your computer.

2. Mount it. The magnetic mount sticks to the windscreen with 3M adhesive. Position it behind the rear-view mirror on the passenger side, clean the glass first, and press firmly for 10 seconds. The magnetic design means you can pull the camera off the mount without peeling anything.

3. Route the rear camera. Plug the rear cam into the rear port on the main unit and run the cable along the headliner, down the passenger pillar and back to the rear glass. Keep it clear of curtain airbags.

4. Pair the app. Download the Vantrue app, turn off mobile data on your phone, and connect to the camera's 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Once paired you can preview, download and share clips without touching the card.

5. Set the time zone and speed units. Two minutes in the settings menu now saves you a confusing timestamp argument later. The built-in GPS stamps speed and route onto your footage automatically.

💡 Pro Tip: Parking Mode Needs Constant Power

On the cigarette lighter plug alone, the E2 Pro switches off with the ignition. To keep watch while you are parked, add the Vantrue VP01 hardwire kit (wired to the fuse box) or the plug-and-play VP04 OBD kit. Both include low-voltage cut-off so your starter battery stays safe.

Once powered, pick your mode: impact detection (camera wakes when bumped), motion detection, time-lapse, or low-bit-rate recording. For most driveways and shopping centre car parks, impact detection is the set-and-forget choice.

Voice commands worth memorising

The E2 Pro listens for a handful of commands so you can keep your eyes on the road: lock the current video, take a photo, mute the audio, and start or stop recording. Locking a video protects that clip from being overwritten by loop recording, which is the circular-tape system that records over the oldest footage once the card fills up. We recommend instead turning it off altogether, rather than hearing a random wake chime play if the radio tens to set off the voice command.

Common Troubleshooting

Issue / Message What It Means & How To Fix It
"Card Error" or "Please Format" The card is too slow, nearly worn out, or formatted on a computer.
Fix: Format in the camera menu. If the error returns within days, replace the card with a high-endurance U3 card.
App Won't Connect Your phone is clinging to mobile data instead of the camera's Wi-Fi.
Fix: Turn off mobile data, connect to the Vantrue network in your phone's Wi-Fi list, then open the app. Stay within a few metres of the camera.
Rear Camera Shows No Image Almost always a cable issue.
Fix: Re-seat both ends of the rear cable and check for pinches where it passes through the tailgate or boot hinge.
No GPS Speed On Footage The GPS needs a clear view of the sky.
Fix: Give it a minute or two after start-up, and check the camera is not sitting behind heavy metallic tint.
Camera Restarts Randomly Usually a failing SD card or weak power supply.
Fix: Swap the card first. If it continues, test a different power source before assuming the camera is at fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the E2 Pro different from the regular E2?
Yes. The E2 Pro steps the front camera up to 4K (the E2 records 2.7K) and the rear to 2K. If you own the standard model, our Vantrue E2 user manual guide is the one you want.

2. Do I need a CPL filter?
It is optional but worthwhile. A CPL (circular polarising lens) filter cuts the dashboard reflections you see in the windscreen on bright days. Have a look at our CPL filter range for a compatible fit.

3. Will it survive an Australian summer?
The E2 Pro uses a internal supercapacitor instead of a lithium battery, which handles the heat of a parked car far better. It is one of the reasons we rate Vantrue for Aussie conditions.

4. What warranty do I get?
Buying from us as an authorised Australian reseller gets you Vantrue's 18-month manufacturer warranty with local support from our Melbourne team.
