VIOFO A149 Pro Duo User Manual & Setup Guide

VIOFO A149 Pro Duo acting up? Lost the booklet? No stress.

Whether you're setting up the VIOFO A149 Pro Duo for the first time, trying to work out what a flashing light means, or getting parking mode going, this is our plain-English cheat sheet. Everything here follows VIOFO's own A149 Pro Series manual, and the full PDF is linked at the bottom.

💡 Pro Tip: Parking Mode Needs the HK6-A

The supplied car charger only runs the camera while you drive. For parking mode, Cut-off Voltage and the battery voltage stamp, VIOFO specifies the HK6-A hardwire kit, plugged into the POWER port on the GPS mount (not the small Type-C port on the camera body). No microSD card comes in the box either, so sort both before install day.

Grab the VIOFO HK6-A Hardwire Kit here.

Need a high-endurance microSD card? Shop memory cards.

Hardwiring it yourself? Add a Fuse Tap Kit.

Quick Specs & What's in the Box

  • Recording: 4K 30fps front (Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678) + 1080p 30fps rear, HDR on both
  • Screen: 2.0 inch. Power: supercapacitor, DC 5V 2A input
  • Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 6, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. GPS: built into the mount
  • microSD: up to 512 GB, not included
  • In the box: front camera + GPS mount, rear camera, CPL-800 front filter, 6 m rear cable, 3.5 m car charger, 0.5 m Type-C data cable (data and firmware only, not for power), trim tool, spare sticky pad, 3 static stickers

First-Time Setup

  1. Insert the card until it clicks. The camera must format it before first use.
  2. Mount the front camera behind the rear-view mirror, inside the wiper sweep, on clean, grease-free glass.
  3. Fit the rear camera on the rear windscreen clear of the demister lines. Power the front camera off before plugging in the rear cable.
  4. Power it through the POWER port on the GPS mount, using the car charger or the HK6-A.
  5. Run the setup wizard: choose language, time zone and speed unit (pick km/h), then confirm the card format. Time and date set automatically once GPS locks. If you're in a daylight saving state, turn on Daylight Saving Time in System Settings when it applies.

Parking Modes (HK6-A or Battery Pack Required)

Mode What It Does
Hybrid Parking Recording Starts in time-lapse, low bitrate or event detection, then drops to Low Power Impact Detection when your Cut-off Time, Cut-off Voltage or Cut-off Battery Pack Capacity is reached. Needs one of those set.
Low Power Impact Detection Camera sleeps, wakes in about 2 seconds on an impact and records 1 minute (up to 3 if movement continues).
Auto Event Detection Records on movement, saving 15 s before and 30 s after.
Time-lapse 1/2/3/5/10 fps, no audio. 1 fps offers Super Night Vision. VIOFO's pick for hot days.
Low Bitrate Continuous recording at a lower bitrate for smaller files.

Find these under Video Settings > Parking Recording. Cut-off Voltage options are Off, 12.4V/24.8V, 12.2V/24.4V and 12.0V/24.0V (HK6-A only). Cut-off Battery Pack Capacity is 5/8/10/15% (BP60 or BP100 only). Geofencing lets you set up to three zones, like your garage, where the camera shuts down instead of entering parking mode.

Firmware Updates

  1. Download the latest A149 Pro firmware from VIOFO's Firmware & Manual page and follow VIOFO's instructions there.
  2. Format the card in the camera first, so it reads and writes reliably.
  3. Don't cut power while the Power LED flashes red. An update can reset your settings to default, so check them afterwards.

Common Questions & Troubleshooting

The REC light is flashing and it's not recording. Why?

Almost always the card. Stop recording, hold the Up/Record button to format it in the camera, and use a high-endurance card of 512 GB or less.

Parking mode won't work on the car charger.

That's normal. Parking recording needs constant power from the HK6-A (or a BP60/BP100), connected to the POWER port on the GPS mount. The camera's own Type-C port doesn't support parking mode.

The rear camera isn't showing up.

Power the camera off, reseat the rear cable at both ends, then power back on. Also check Rear Camera in the settings isn't set to Off or 'Only On while Parking'.

Where are my locked files on the card?

Loop footage is in DCIM > Movie, locked files in DCIM > Movie > RO, parking files in DCIM > Movie > Parking and photos in DCIM > Photo. Locked files can use up to 30% of the card before the oldest get overwritten.

I forgot the Wi-Fi password.

Use Reset Camera Settings in System Settings to go back to defaults, then reconnect with 12345678.

Voice control isn't responding.

Voice commands work in English, Chinese, Russian and Japanese, and the command language must match the camera's system language. Try 'Take Photo', 'Lock the Video' or 'Turn On Wi-Fi'.
