WOLFBOX OBD01 OBD Hardwire Kit User Manual & Setup Guide

WOLFBOX OBD01 OBD Hardwire Kit not behaving? Lost the booklet? No stress.

The OBD01 kit is the no-tools way to power your WOLFBOX for parking mode. It plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash, feeds constant power to the camera, and comes out without a trace when the lease car goes back. Here's how to fit it, how to set the cut-off switch and read the display, and what to check when it doesn't play nice.

💡 Pro Tip: Check Your OBD Port Stays Live

Some vehicles cut power to the OBD port once the car is locked. If yours does, the camera stops when you walk away. A quick check with a test light (car off and locked for a few minutes) saves a lot of head scratching.

Quick Specs: Is This the Right Kit?

This kit suits the G900, G850, G840S, G840H, G930, X3, X5 and i07. It does not suit the G900 Pro or G900 TriPro, which need a 4A kit. For those, grab the WBH40O OBD kit and follow our WBH40O installer guide.

Tools needed None for the plug. A trim tool helps with tidy cable routing.

Installation Steps

  1. Switch the car off. Find the OBD-II port. It's most often low on the left of the trim panel under the steering wheel, but depending on the car it can be above the accelerator pedal, near the driver's side fuse box or in front of the gear shifter (your owner's manual will show it).
  2. Push the OBD plug in firmly until it's fully seated.
  3. Mount the control box somewhere you can reach the switch and read the display easily.
  4. Set your cut-off voltage with the switch (see the table below).
  5. Plug the USB-C into the camera's power port and check the camera powers on properly.
  6. Route the cable up behind the A-pillar trim and along the headliner to the camera, clear of curtain airbags. Secure any slack so it can't foul the pedals or get kicked.
  7. Switch parking mode on in the camera's settings, then turn the car off and lock it. Check the camera stays on and changes over to parking recording.

Voltage Cut-Off Settings (The Important Bit)

Slide the switch from left to right to step the protection voltage down. On a 24V vehicle the same positions give the 24V values.

Switch Position 12V Batteries (Cars/Utes) 24V Batteries (Trucks)
Left 12.4V 24.4V
Middle 12.0V 24.0V
Right 11.6V 23.6V

Reading the display: every time you move the switch, the screen first shows the cut-off you've just set, then your car battery's current voltage for 2 seconds. When the battery drops to your set level, the kit cuts power to the dash cam after five minutes. WOLFBOX quotes a display tolerance of ±0.2V, which doesn't affect the protection itself.

Common Questions & Troubleshooting

The camera switches off when I lock the car.

Your vehicle is cutting power to the OBD port after locking. That's the car, not the kit, and it varies by make. A fuse-tap install such as the standard WOLFBOX RP01 hardwire kit is the fix.

The camera doesn't go into parking mode, or stops early.

Check parking mode is turned on in the camera's settings. Then flick the switch and watch the display: it shows your cut-off, then the live battery voltage. If the battery is already sitting at or near your setting, the kit will cut power five minutes later. Give the car a decent drive, or move the switch to a lower setting only if your battery is in good nick.

The display reading doesn't quite match my multimeter.

That's normal. The display is accurate to ±0.2V and that doesn't affect the cut-off.

A mechanic needs the OBD port for a service.

Just unplug the kit, let them do their thing, then plug it back in. If you need both connected at once, you'll need an OBD splitter.

Will this void my warranty or upset a novated lease?

Nothing is cut, spliced or tapped. The kit plugs into a port designed to be plugged into, and it unplugs in seconds leaving the car exactly as it was.

Can I use it on my G900 Pro or TriPro?

No. Those cameras need a 4A kit. Use the WBH40O OBD kit instead.

My battery still went flat.

The cut-off protects a healthy battery. Old batteries, short trips and long parks can still get you. Try the 12.4V setting, get the battery tested, or consider a dash cam battery pack if the car sits for long periods.
