Who This Isn't For: The N4S tops out at 2.7K at the front. If you want 4K ahead, choose the Vantrue N4 Pro or the Vantrue N4 Pro S. Good to Know

• Parking mode needs constant power from a hardwire kit, such as the Vantrue VP05, sold separately. Vantrue recommends its own ACC kits because other brands place the ACC detection pin differently.
• Vantrue's N4S manual lists two 2.5K rear cameras: the RC09, which is waterproof for mounting outside, and the RC18, which is not waterproof and mounts inside the rear window. Check which one is in your box before you mount anything outside, and ask us if you are unsure.
• Every mode records at 30fps. There is no 60fps option.

Why Do Matching Sensors Matter on a Three-Channel Dash Cam?

Matching sensors matter because an incident does not choose which camera it happens in front of. A three-channel dash cam splits its processor and its budget across three lenses, and the usual compromise is a premium sensor at the front with older, noisier sensors in the cabin and at the rear. In daylight you barely notice. At night, the rear plate and the faces in the cabin are often the first details to blur.

The Vantrue N4S uses the same Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor on all three cameras, according to Vantrue, with HDR on each one and infrared LEDs for the cabin. The trade-off is the front resolution. At 2592 x 1944 it holds fewer pixels than a 4K camera, so a plate far ahead is harder to read than on the N4 Pro or N4 Pro S. How Does the Vantrue N4S Install?

1. Clip the camera onto the GPS adhesive mount, insert a microSD card and format it in the camera. Power it up on the car charger and set the date, time zone and language before you stick anything down.
2. Clean the glass, fit the electrostatic sticker beside the rear-view mirror, and press the mount onto it. Check the front and cabin views on the 2-inch screen first.
3. Mount the rear camera. The RC18 goes inside the rear window, clear of the demister lines. Only the waterproof RC09 goes outside, and Vantrue says to seal its cable joint with heat shrink tubing.
4. Run the rear camera cable along the headlining to the front with the pry tool and plug it into the rear camera port. Power goes into the charging USB-C port. The other USB-C port is for data only.

The rear cable run is the longest part of the job. In a van, a wagon or a ute with a canopy, the Vantrue 9m rear camera cable fits the N4S. Hardwiring for parking mode means finding a switched and a constant fuse, and a circuit tester makes that far easier.
