Why Does a Wide Infrared Cabin Camera Matter?

A cabin camera records what front and rear cameras cannot: who was in the car, what they did and what was said. For anyone who carries passengers, whether that is paid work, a fleet car or a family, that is often where the dispute actually sits.

Most interior cameras fail in two ways. A narrow lens sees the front seats and misses the rear doors, and at night the cabin records as a dark rectangle. The A229 Ultra 3CH cabin camera uses a 210° fisheye lens on a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX662 sensor, so one frame covers the doors and side windows, and its four infrared LEDs switch on automatically when the light drops. The trade-off is that fisheye footage bends at the edges, infrared footage is black and white, and 1080p shows people and actions clearly rather than fine detail. How Does the A229 Ultra 3CH Install?

1. Stick the front camera behind the rear-view mirror and tuck its power lead into the headlining, using the trim tool in the box.
2. Fix the cabin camera to the windscreen beside the front unit, aimed back into the cabin, and connect it with the 1-metre interior camera cable.
3. Run the 6-metre rear camera cable along the headlining and down to the rear window, then fix the rear camera to the glass clear of the demister lines.
4. Power it from the 12V socket with the included car charger, or hardwire it to the fuse box with the HK4 kit if you want parking mode.
5. Insert and format a microSD card, then pair the VIOFO app to set the time zone, GPS, cabin camera and infrared options.

Turn the camera off before you plug or unplug the rear or cabin camera. Check a night clip in the app before you tidy the cables away, because the cabin camera angle is easier to adjust before the trim goes back on.
