Why Does an Exterior Rear Camera Beat More Megapixels?

An interior rear camera looks through the back window, which usually means factory tint, a demister grid and whatever is in the load area. On a ute with a canopy or a van with no rear glass, it sees nothing useful at all. A higher resolution rear camera does not help, because the obstruction is in front of the lens, not inside the sensor.

How Does the VIOFO A329SW Install?

1. Stick the front camera and GPS mount behind the rear-view mirror and tuck the power lead into the headlining with the trim tool in the box.
2. Fix the waterproof rear camera to the outside of the vehicle, above the plate, on the tailgate or under the roofline, using the 3M adhesive or the two screws supplied.
3. With the front camera switched off, route the waterproof rear camera cable into the cabin through a grommet or sealed entry point, then along the headlining to the front camera.
4. Power it from the 12V socket with the included USB-C car charger, or hardwire it with the HK6 kit for the full set of parking modes, then format a microSD card and pair the VIOFO app.

The exterior cable run is the slow part. On a canopy ute or a van it often means finding a factory grommet or adding a sealed one, which is a job many owners hand to an installer.
