Record the Plate Far Ahead and the Back Seat. The VIOFO A329TC 3CH Dash Cam Pairs a 4K Front With a 4x Zoom Telephoto and an Infrared Cabin Camera

A normal front and rear dash cam leaves two gaps. A number plate a few car lengths ahead shrinks to a handful of pixels, and nothing is recorded inside the car, where most passenger disputes happen. The VIOFO A329TC 3CH is built to close both. A 2K telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom records the road well ahead, a 2K infrared fisheye camera records the cabin, and a 4K front camera records everything in between.

Trusted AU store: We're an authorised Australian reseller, shipping from Melbourne within 24 hours*. You get an 18-month warranty with no product registration required, local technical support, and our 30-Day No-Worries returns.

Who This Isn't For: If you want the road behind recorded, the VIOFO A329T 3CH swaps the cabin camera for a 2K rear camera, and the VIOFO A329T 2CH drops the third camera for a 4K 60fps front. In Victoria and Queensland, transport rules restrict cameras that record inside rideshare cars, so read our rideshare dash cam laws guide first. The A329TC suits drivers who carry passengers and want distant plates on record.

DCG Highlights

What We Love

  • A 2K telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom and a narrow 35° view, which captures distant plates a wide lens leaves too small to read
  • A 210° fisheye cabin camera with infrared LEDs, so the front and back seats stay on record after dark without a visible light in anyone's eyes
  • Sony STARVIS 2 sensors on all three cameras: an 8MP IMX678 on the 4K front, and 5MP IMX675s on the telephoto and the cabin camera
  • HDR on all three channels, balancing headlights and streetlights against darker detail at night
  • Low Power Impact Detection and Hybrid Parking Mode with the HK6 kit, so the camera can keep watch through a long park
  • External SSD support up to 4TB, on top of microSD up to 512GB
  • Wi-Fi 6 for moving clips to your phone in the VIOFO app, plus GPS and voice control

Good to Know

  • With all three cameras running, each records at 30fps: 4K on the front, 2K on the telephoto and 2K on the cabin camera.
  • When the infrared LEDs are on, the cabin camera records in black and white. Set them to Auto and the camera switches them on only in low light.
  • Hybrid Parking Mode and voltage cut-off need the VIOFO HK6 hardwire kit, sold separately.
  • Three high-bitrate channels fill a card fast. Budget for a 256GB or 512GB card, which is not included.

Why Pair a Telephoto Camera With a Cabin Camera?

Pairing them covers two things a front and rear kit cannot record: a distant number plate and the inside of the car. A normal dash cam lens is wide, around 140°, so a car a few lengths ahead covers so few pixels that its plate cannot be read. And neither a front nor a rear camera looks inside the car, where passenger disputes happen.

The VIOFO A329TC aims a camera at each gap. The telephoto's 35° lens with 4x optical zoom spends all its pixels on a narrow slice of road straight ahead, and because the zoom is optical, the detail is real rather than stretched from a crop. The 210° fisheye cabin camera takes in the front and back seats, and its infrared LEDs keep them visible at night. There are two trade-offs. There is no rear camera, and in Victoria and Queensland, transport rules restrict cameras that record inside rideshare cars. Read our guide to rideshare dash cam laws in Australia before you use the cabin camera for rideshare work.

Top Benefits

  • Distant plates on record: The 4x optical zoom captures plates well ahead of your bonnet.
  • The cabin on record: The 210° infrared cabin camera records the front and back seats, day and night.
  • Night detail: STARVIS 2 sensors with HDR on every channel handle headlight glare.
  • Longer parked protection: Low power and hybrid parking modes stretch how long it can keep watch.
  • Weeks of storage: An external SSD of up to 4TB loops far less often than a card.
  • Proof of where and how fast: GPS logs location, speed and time onto every clip.

How Does the VIOFO A329TC 3CH Install?

  1. Stick the front camera and GPS mount behind the rear-view mirror, then fit the telephoto camera beside it and connect it to the front camera with the 1m telephoto cable.
  2. Aim the telephoto so it points straight down your lane, level with the horizon. If it points off to one side, it records the kerb instead of the car ahead.
  3. Fix the cabin camera to the windscreen near the mirror, connect it with the 1m cabin camera cable, and angle it so both rows of seats are in frame.
  4. Power it from the 12V socket with the included car charger, or hardwire it with the HK6 kit for the full set of parking modes, then pair the VIOFO app to set the time, GPS, infrared LEDs and parking options.

With no rear cable to run along the headlining, the A329TC goes in quicker than a front and rear kit. Aiming the telephoto is the fiddly part, so check a test clip in the app before you tidy the cables away.

FAQ

  • Q: Does the A329TC record the road behind the car? A: No. The third camera is the infrared cabin camera, not a rear camera, so the road behind is not recorded. It is the most common mix-up in the A329 range. For front, telephoto and rear, choose the VIOFO A329T 3CH. For front, cabin and rear without the telephoto, the VIOFO A329S 3CH covers that.
  • Q: Can I use the cabin camera for Uber or DiDi? A: It depends on your state. Victoria and Queensland transport rules restrict cameras that record inside rideshare cars, so check the rules where you drive, and your platform's own policy, before you use the cabin camera for rideshare work. Our rideshare dash cam laws guide explains what applies in each state.
  • Q: Can I switch the cabin camera off when I do not need it? A: Yes. In the camera settings, the Interior Camera option can be set to Off, On, Only On while Driving or Only On while Parking, so you choose when the cabin is recorded. The telephoto camera has its own setting with the same four choices, and the 4K front camera keeps recording either way.
  • Q: Does the telephoto camera replace the normal front camera? A: No. The A329TC records both. The 4K wide front camera shows the whole road, and the telephoto camera records a narrow, zoomed view straight ahead. Together they give you the full scene and a closer look at vehicles further up the road, while the cabin camera covers the inside of the car.
  • Q: Which hardwire kit do I need? A: The VIOFO HK6 hardwire kit, the kit built for the A329 series. It enables Hybrid Parking Mode, adds a low-voltage cut-off to protect your car battery, and lets the camera use Low Power Impact Detection while parked. The VIOFO HK4 also powers the camera for parking, but it does not offer Low Power Parking Mode.
  • Q: What size memory card should I get? A: Three high-bitrate channels fill a card fast, so treat 256GB as the minimum and a 512GB VIOFO Industrial card as the sensible choice. For much longer, add an external SSD of up to 4TB. At three hours of driving a day on normal bitrate, VIOFO estimates a 4TB drive holds about 35 days of three-channel footage before it loops.
