Catch the Plate Further Up the Road. The VIOFO A329T 2CH Dash Cam Records a 4K 60fps Front and a 4x Optical Zoom Telephoto

Most dash cam footage fails at the one job that matters after a driver takes off: naming the car. A wide front lens squeezes the whole road into one frame, so a plate a few car lengths ahead ends up as a smudge of pixels, and a car crossing in front can blur between frames. The VIOFO A329T 2CH puts two cameras on the windscreen: a 4K front camera recording at 60fps for the full scene, and a 2K telephoto with 4x optical zoom for the road well ahead.

Trusted AU store: We're an authorised Australian reseller, shipping from Melbourne within 24 hours*. You get an 18-month warranty with no product registration required, local technical support, and our 30-Day No-Worries returns.

Who This Isn't For: Both cameras face forward, so nothing records behind the car. If you want the rear covered too, the VIOFO A329T 3CH adds a rear camera, and the VIOFO A329TC adds an infrared cabin camera. If you do not need the zoom, the VIOFO A329S 2CH records front and rear. The A329T 2CH is for drivers who want distant plates and the smoothest 4K front footage.

DCG Highlights

What We Love

  • A 4K front camera that records at 60fps, which gives you twice as many frames to pause on a car crossing in front of you as 30fps does
  • A 2K telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom and a narrow 35° view, which captures distant plates a wide lens leaves too small to read
  • Sony STARVIS 2 sensors on both cameras: an 8MP IMX678 on the 4K front and a 5MP IMX675 on the telephoto, for detail after dark
  • Low Power Impact Detection and Hybrid Parking Mode with the HK6 kit, so the camera can keep watch through a long park and still protect your car battery
  • External SSD support up to 4TB, on top of microSD up to 512GB
  • Wi-Fi 6 for moving clips to your phone in the VIOFO app, plus GPS and voice control
  • Room to grow: add a VIOFO rear camera later and it becomes a three-channel system

Good to Know

  • 4K 60fps works only with HDR switched off. For mostly night driving, 4K 30fps with HDR on balances headlights better.
  • Add a rear camera later and all three cameras record at 30fps, so the front drops from 4K 60fps to 4K 30fps.
  • Parking modes need a hardwire kit. The VIOFO HK6 hardwire kit, sold separately, supports Hybrid and Low Power modes and adds voltage cut-off.
  • The telephoto view is narrow by design. It supports the wide front camera rather than replacing it.

Why Pair a Telephoto Camera With a 60fps Front Camera?

Dash cam footage loses a number plate in two ways: distance and motion. A standard 140° front lens spends its pixels on the whole road, so a car several lengths ahead covers only a handful of them. And at 30fps, a car cutting across your bonnet moves a long way between frames, so the clearest still can land just before or just after the plate is readable.

The A329T 2CH answers each problem with a different camera. The telephoto's 35° lens and 4x optical zoom spend all its pixels on a narrow slice of road straight ahead, so a vehicle further up fills far more of the frame. The 4K front camera, recording at 60fps, captures twice as many frames of the action close by. The trade-off is that 4K 60fps runs without HDR, and the telephoto records at 2K 30fps, so for night-heavy driving you may prefer the front at 4K 30fps with HDR on.

Top Benefits

  • Distant plates on record: The 4x optical zoom captures plates well ahead of your bonnet.
  • Sharper stills of moving cars: 60fps on the 4K front doubles the frames you can pause on.
  • A simpler install: Both cameras sit behind the mirror, so there is no cable to run to the back of the car.
  • Longer parked protection: Low power and hybrid parking modes stretch how long it can keep watch.
  • Weeks of storage: An external SSD of up to 4TB loops far less often than a card.
  • Proof of where and how fast: GPS logs location, speed and time onto every clip.

How Does the VIOFO A329T 2CH Install?

  1. Stick the front camera and GPS mount behind the rear-view mirror, then fit the telephoto camera beside it and connect it with the included 1m telephoto camera cable.
  2. Aim the telephoto so it points straight down your lane, level with the horizon. If it points off to one side, it records the kerb instead of the car ahead.
  3. Tuck the power cable into the headlining and down the pillar using the included trim removal tool.
  4. Power it from the 12V socket with the included car charger, or hardwire it with the HK6 kit for the full set of parking modes, then pair the VIOFO app to set the time, GPS and parking options.

Aiming the telephoto is the only fiddly part, so check a test clip in the app before you tidy the cables away. A level horizon now saves pulling the trim off twice.

FAQ

  • Q: Does the A329T 2CH record behind the car? A: No. Both cameras face forward: the 4K wide front camera and the 2K telephoto camera. On this model, 2CH means two forward channels, not front and rear. If you want the car behind you recorded as well, choose the VIOFO A329T 3CH, which adds a 2K rear camera, or plan to add a rear camera to the 2CH later.
  • Q: Can I add a rear camera later? A: Yes. The A329T records front, telephoto and rear at once, so you can add a VIOFO RC420 rear camera or the RWC400 waterproof rear camera later. With three cameras running, all three record at 30fps, so the front drops from 4K 60fps to 4K 30fps. If you think you will want the rear, run its cable during the first install.
  • Q: Should I record at 4K 60fps or 4K 30fps with HDR? A: For mostly daytime driving, 4K 60fps gives smoother footage and more frames to pause on a passing car. HDR balances bright headlights against darker plates at night, but the A329T only allows it at 30fps. If most of your driving is after dark, use 4K 30fps with HDR on. The telephoto records at 2K 30fps either way.
  • Q: Which hardwire kit do I need for parking mode? A: The VIOFO HK6 hardwire kit, the kit built for the A329 series. It supports Hybrid Parking Mode and Low Power Impact Detection, adds a low-voltage cut-off to protect your car battery, and lets the camera stamp the battery voltage on your footage. Parking modes need the camera hardwired, because the car charger cuts power when the ignition goes off.
  • Q: What size memory card should I get? A: A 256GB VIOFO Industrial card is a sensible starting point, and VIOFO estimates a 512GB card holds about 17 hours of two-channel driving at the default bitrate before it loops over the oldest clips. For weeks of footage, add an external SSD of up to 4TB. Use a high-endurance card either way, because cheap cards are a common cause of lost footage.
  • Q: Does the telephoto camera record in 4K too? A: No. The telephoto camera records at up to 2K (2560 x 1440) at 30fps, whichever mode you choose. The 4K figure belongs to the wide front camera. The telephoto makes up for it with 4x optical zoom and a narrow 35° view, so a car well ahead fills far more of its frame than it does in the 4K wide view, and that detail is real rather than a digital crop.
  • Q: Can I fit a CPL filter to the telephoto camera? A: Yes. A CPL filter for the front camera comes in the box. For the telephoto, the VIOFO CPL-600 fits it and cuts reflections off the windscreen, which helps in bright Australian sun. Fit it after you have aimed the telephoto, because the filter rotates to tune the effect.
