VIOFO A329 Dash Cam Models Explained: Which One Suits Your Car?
Every VIOFO A329 uses the same front camera. The model name simply tells you which extra cameras come in the box. The A329S 2CH, the VIOFO A329S dash cam most drivers buy, is front and rear. The VIOFO A329S 1CH dash cam is front only, and the VIOFO A329S 3CH dash cam adds a rear and a cabin camera, while the VIOFO A329S 2CH IR dash cam swaps the rear for an infrared cabin camera. The VIOFO A329SW dash cam has a waterproof rear camera for outside the car. The VIOFO A329T 2CH dash cam is front and zoom, with no rear camera, and the VIOFO A329T 3CH adds a rear camera to that. The VIOFO A329TC dash cam is front, zoom and cabin.
VIOFO's naming makes perfect sense once you know the trick, and not one second before. So here is the trick.

The A329 range in plain English
Read the model name, and you know what you are getting.
- A329S 1CH is a front camera only.
- A329S 2CH is front and rear. This is the standard setup for most cars.
- A329S 2CH IR is front and cabin. It watches inside the car, even at night. There is no rear camera.
- A329S 3CH is front, rear and cabin.
- A329SW is front and a waterproof rear camera that mounts outside the car.
- A329T 2CH is front and zoom. Both cameras face forward. There is no rear camera.
- A329T 3CH is front, zoom and rear.
- A329TC is front, zoom and cabin. There is no rear camera.
An easy way to remember it: T means the zoom (telephoto) camera, W means waterproof, IR means a cabin camera that sees in the dark, and think C for cabin. The number before CH is how many cameras you get, so a 3CH model is a three-channel dash cam.
Five words that make the range easy
- Channel (CH): one camera. A 2CH kit has two cameras.
- Rear camera: sits on your back window and records what is behind you.
- Cabin camera: faces inside the car. It uses infrared light, so it can see passengers in the dark.
- Zoom camera (telephoto): sits next to the front camera and also points forward. It is zoomed in four times, so it can read number plates further up the road.
- Waterproof rear: a sealed rear camera rated IP67. It mounts outside, on a tailgate, bumper or number plate bracket.
Which cameras does each A329 have?
| Model | Cameras in the box | Front camera records | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| A329S 1CH | Front | 4K at 60fps | Drivers who only want the road ahead |
| A329S 2CH | Front + rear | 4K at 60fps | Most cars |
| A329S 2CH IR | Front + cabin | 4K at 60fps | Drivers who want the cabin but not the rear |
| A329S 3CH | Front + rear + cabin | 4K at 30fps | Rideshare and family cars |
| A329SW | Front + waterproof rear | 4K at 60fps | Utes with canopies, vans, towing |
| A329T 2CH | Front + zoom | 4K at 60fps | Drivers focused on plates up ahead |
| A329T 3CH | Front + zoom + rear | 4K at 30fps | Zoom without giving up the rear view |
| A329TC | Front + zoom + cabin | 4K at 30fps | Passenger drivers who also want zoom |
Every extra camera, whether rear, cabin, zoom or waterproof, records in 2K at 30 frames per second. Figures are VIOFO's own published specifications, checked on 14 September 2026.
Why do the three-camera models record the front at 30fps?
Frame rate is how many pictures the camera takes each second. At 60fps you get twice as many pictures as at 30fps. That gives you more chances at a sharp still of a number plate on a fast-moving car.
The A329 front camera records at 60fps when it runs alone or with one extra camera. Add a third camera and VIOFO drops the front to 30fps. That is not a fault, just the trade for recording three views at once.
So choose three cameras when the extra view matters to you, like a cabin camera for passengers. If the sharpest front footage is your priority, stay with one or two cameras. Our A329S 60fps guide explains the settings in more detail.
Which A329 should you buy?
You drive a normal car and want front and back covered. Get the A329S 2CH. For most people, this is the one.
You only care about the road ahead. The A329S 1CH does that, and you can add cameras later.
You carry passengers, for rideshare, taxi or the school run. The A329S 3CH gives you front, rear and cabin. If you do not need the rear view, the A329S 2CH IR keeps the front at 60fps. For rideshare work, Victoria and Queensland transport rules restrict cameras that record inside rideshare cars, so read our rideshare dash cam laws guide first.
Your back window is blocked. A ute canopy, a van with no rear glass or a caravan behind you all get in the way of a normal rear camera. The A329SW puts a waterproof camera outside the car instead.
You want to read number plates further up the road. The A329T 3CH adds the zoom camera and still keeps a rear camera. Pick the A329T 2CH only if you are happy with nothing recording behind you.
You carry passengers and want the zoom camera. The A329TC gives you front, zoom and cabin. Just remember it has no rear camera.

Can you add or change cameras later?
Mostly, yes. VIOFO states the front unit is the same hardware across the A329S, A329T and A329SW, and only the firmware is different. Firmware is the software inside the camera. Here is what that means in practice:
- Swapping a normal rear for a waterproof rear: VIOFO says no firmware change is needed.
- Adding a cabin camera to an A329S: it plugs in.
- Adding the zoom camera to an A329S: VIOFO says you need to update the camera to its A329T firmware first. That update resets your settings.
- The limit is three cameras. No A329 records front, rear, cabin and zoom all at once.
VIOFO posts A329 firmware updates on its own website. Always use the file for your exact model, and if you have lost the booklet, our VIOFO A329S user manual guide covers the settings.
Pro Tip: Decide on your cameras before the install. Plugging in a new camera is quick. Running a fresh cable under the roof lining and down the pillar is the slow part, so it is easier to run it while the trim is already off. Our A329S upgrade guide covers adding cameras.
What about the original VIOFO A329?
VIOFO also made an earlier model called the A329, without the S. VIOFO lists it as sold out. Everything on this page is about the current family: the A329S, A329T, A329TC and A329SW. If you already own an original A329, check VIOFO's compatibility notes before buying extra cameras, because what is written here may not apply to it.
Is there a VIOFO A329 Pro?
No. When we checked on 14 September 2026, VIOFO did not list a model called the A329 Pro. The closest names are the A329S and the VIOFO A229 Pro, which is a separate camera range. If you are weighing those two up, read our VIOFO A229 Pro review or our A329S vs A229 Ultra comparison.
What every A329 has in common
- Sensors: VIOFO lists a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 in the front camera and an IMX675 in every extra camera. STARVIS 2 is Sony's low light sensor range.
- Supercapacitor: it stores just enough power to save the last clip when the car switches off, and copes with heat better than a small rechargeable battery. VIOFO rates the A329 from -20°C to 65°C.
- Storage: microSD cards up to 512GB, or an SSD drive up to 4TB. The SSD and its cable are sold separately.
- Wi-Fi 6 and GPS: the app connects over Wi-Fi, and GPS is built into the included mount.
- Parking mode: needs a hardwire kit, which is not in the box. The VIOFO HK6 hardwire kit adds a battery voltage cut-off, so the camera switches off before your car battery runs too low.
Will an A329 cope with an Australian summer?
VIOFO rates it to 65°C. A car parked in full summer sun can get hotter than that behind the windscreen, so a sunshade and a shady spot help. Mounting the front camera behind the rear-view mirror also keeps it out of the worst of the sun. We have not run our own heat testing on the A329 range.
If the install is putting you off, we do not install cameras ourselves. We keep a directory of independent dash cam installers, and you book and contract directly with them.
A329 questions we get asked
Do I need an SSD for my A329?
No. A good microSD card up to 512GB works well for most drivers. An SSD, which is a small external drive, holds far more footage, up to 4TB. That suits work vehicles and long days of driving. The SSD and its data cable are sold separately, and you need somewhere sensible to mount the drive.
Where can I buy a VIOFO A329 in Australia?
VIOFO sells through Australian retailers, and VIOFO's own where-to-buy page lists The Dash Cam Guys as an authorised retailer in Australia. We ship from Melbourne. You can see every model in our range of VIOFO dash cams in Australia.
Can I install an A329 myself?
A front camera on its own is the simplest job. Each extra camera adds a cable run, to the back window or the cabin, and parking mode needs a hardwire kit connected to your fuse box. A properly completed accessory installation does not automatically remove Australian Consumer Law rights. However, a manufacturer or dealer may dispute coverage for damage shown to have been caused by the installation, so use an appropriately qualified installer when required.
What warranty does VIOFO give on the A329?
VIOFO states 18 months on the camera and 12 months on accessories, and says registering with VIOFO extends that. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply on top of any manufacturer warranty, whatever the warranty period says.
