Who This Isn't For: The E1 Lite records the road ahead in 1080p only and cannot take a rear camera. If you want to read number plates further away, the Vantrue E1 Pro is the 4K step up in the same small shape. For front and rear cover, look at the Vantrue E2. • Vantrue lists a 2MP GalaxyCore GC2093 sensor, not a Sony STARVIS. If night detail is your priority, the E1 Pro and its STARVIS 2 sensor is the stronger choice.
• Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz only, so copying long clips to your phone is slower than on a 5GHz camera.
• No microSD card is included. It takes cards up to 512GB.

Why Is 1080p Enough for Everyday Driving?

1080p is enough for everyday driving because it shows what happened: who was in which lane, who moved first and what colour the light was. What 1080p cannot always do is read every number plate. The camera spreads about 2 million pixels across a wide view of the road, so a plate close in front of you is far easier to read than one on a car crossing the far side of an intersection.

The Vantrue E1 Lite makes the most of those pixels with HDR, which stops a plate washing out in headlight glare or harsh low sun, and with GPS, which adds the speed and location an insurer will ask about. The trade-off is reach. If your real worry is a driver who clips you and keeps going, more resolution reads a plate from further away, and that is the case for paying more for the 4K E1 Pro.

How Does the Vantrue E1 Lite Install?

1. Slide the camera onto the GPS adhesive mount, insert a microSD card and power it on to find a spot behind the rear-view mirror that gives it a clear view without blocking yours.
2. Clean the glass and fit an electrostatic sticker: peel film 1, press it onto the windscreen, then peel film 2. Press the mount onto the middle of the sticker.
3. Plug the car charger into the 12V socket and its USB-C lead into the port on the mount, which carries power and GPS to the camera. Tuck the lead into the headlining and down the pillar with the trim tool and cable clip, keeping it clear of any airbag.
4. Start the engine and the camera turns on and records. Format the card in System Settings, then connect the Vantrue app over Wi-Fi to set the time and your options.

The plug-in route needs nothing beyond the trim tool in the box. Hardwiring with the VP05 means connecting to your fuse box, while the VP04 plugs into the OBD-II port instead. If fitment is a barrier, see the note below on finding a local installer.
