• No CPL filter is included. Vantrue lists it as an optional accessory.

Why Does the Rear Camera Matter as Much as the Front?

The rear camera matters because the most common argument after a crash is about the car behind you, and a front camera cannot see it. Many two-channel kits pair a sharp front with a 1080p rear, then lose more detail through tinted rear glass. By the time a following car's plate reaches the card, there may not be enough pixels left to read it.

The Vantrue E2 gives the rear camera the same 2.7K (1944p) resolution and the same 160°, F1.8 lens as the front, so the footage from behind starts with as much detail as the footage ahead. The trade-off is frame rate and highlight handling. At 2.7K on both channels the E2 records 24fps, and it uses WDR rather than the HDR on the newer E2 Pro, which Vantrue builds to balance bright headlights against darker number plates. Mount the rear camera near the centre of the glass, clear of the demister lines, as Vantrue recommends.

How Does the Vantrue E2 Install?

1. Insert a microSD card and format it in the camera from the System menu.
2. Clean the windscreen behind the rear-view mirror, fit the electrostatic sticker, then stick the GPS mount to it and fit the camera to the magnetic-assist mount.
3. Fix the rear camera near the centre of the rear window, clear of the demister lines, and run the 6m rear camera cable along the headlining to the front camera, using the included pry tool and cable clips.
4. Plug the car charger's built-in 3.5m USB-C cable into the mount, or hardwire it to the fuse box if you want parking mode.
5. Connect the Vantrue app over the camera's Wi-Fi and pick your time zone, so GPS can set the date and time.

The plug-in route needs nothing beyond the pry tool in the box. Hatchbacks and SUVs take longer, because the rear cable has to pass through the tailgate seal, and hardwiring means finding a switched and a constant fuse.
