Start With a Sharp Front Camera and Add the Rest Later. The VIOFO A329S 1CH Dash Cam Records 4K at 60fps on Sony STARVIS 2

Most front-only dash cams are a dead end. If you decide later that you want a rear or cabin camera, you buy a whole new kit and the old camera goes in a drawer. The VIOFO A329S 1CH is the same front unit VIOFO uses across the A329S range, recording 4K at 60fps on the 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678, with ports ready for a rear camera, a cabin camera or both when you want them.

Trusted AU store: We're an authorised Australian reseller, shipping from Melbourne within 24 hours*. You get an 18-month warranty with no product registration required, local technical support, and our 30-Day No-Worries returns.

Who This Isn't For: If you already know you want rear footage, the VIOFO A329S 2CH has the rear camera in the box. If you want a small, simple front camera without SSD storage or low power parking, the VIOFO A119 Mini 2 records 2K at 60fps in a much smaller body for less. The A329S 1CH is for drivers who want 4K 60fps up front now and room to grow later.

DCG Highlights

What We Love

  • 4K at 60fps on the 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678, which doubles the frames you can pause on when a car passes quickly
  • Rear and cabin camera ports on the front unit, so you can add the VIOFO RC420 rear camera, the RCC360 cabin camera or both without replacing the camera
  • Low Power Impact Detection, which waits in standby and wakes within about 2 seconds of an impact to record a one-minute clip
  • Hybrid Parking Mode, which starts in time-lapse, low bitrate or event recording and switches to impact detection at your set cut-off time or voltage
  • External SSD support up to 4TB, which turns hours of looped footage into weeks
  • Wi-Fi 6, which VIOFO rates at under 10 seconds to move a one-minute 4K clip to your phone
  • A supercapacitor instead of a battery, which copes with a hot parked car far better than lithium cells do

Good to Know

  • This is a front camera only. The rear and cabin cameras are sold separately.
  • Low Power Impact Detection and voltage cut-off need the VIOFO HK6 hardwire kit, sold separately.
  • The front records 4K at 60fps with HDR off. Switch HDR on and it drops to 4K at 30fps.
  • No microSD card or SSD is included. Budget for storage on top of the camera.

Why Buy a Front Camera That Can Grow Into Three?

A single-channel dash cam is normally a closed box. There is no port for a second camera, so adding rear footage means a new camera, a new mount and a second round of wiring, and the old unit is left over. That is a lot of spend and effort to fix a decision you made on day one.

The VIOFO A329S 1CH avoids that. The front unit carries the rear and cabin ports from the start, and every A329S kit is built on it, so adding a rear camera turns it into the same front and rear setup as the A329S 2CH, and adding the cabin camera as well gives you three channels. Our A329S 1CH upgrade guide walks through the options. The trade-off is frame rate: with the cabin camera running in three-channel mode, the front drops from 60fps to 30fps. If you are fairly sure you want a rear camera, the 2CH kit is the simpler buy.

Top Benefits

  • Smoother fast footage: 4K at 60fps gives twice the frames of a 30fps camera to pause on a passing plate.
  • Room to grow: Plug in a rear camera, a cabin camera or both later, and keep the camera you already have.
  • Longer parked protection: Low power and hybrid parking modes stretch how long the camera can keep watch on the same battery.
  • Weeks of storage: An external SSD of up to 4TB records for weeks before it loops over old footage.
  • Clips on your phone fast: Wi-Fi 6 and a USB 3.0 connection move footage to the VIOFO app without pulling the card.
  • Proof of where and how fast: Quad-mode GPS logs location, speed and time onto every clip.

How Does the VIOFO A329S 1CH Install?

  1. Stick the front camera and GPS mount behind the rear-view mirror and tuck the power lead into the headlining with the trim tool in the box.
  2. Power it from the 12V socket with the included USB-C car charger, or hardwire it with the HK6 kit for the full set of parking modes.
  3. Insert and format a microSD card, connect an SSD if you are using one, then pair the VIOFO app to set the time, GPS and parking options.

With one camera and the plug-in charger, this is the quickest A329S to fit, and it needs nothing beyond the trim tool. If you add a rear camera later, the cable run to the rear window is the only extra job. Hardwiring means finding a switched and a constant fuse, and a circuit tester makes that far easier.

FAQ

  • Q: Will the front still record at 60fps if I add cameras later? A: With a rear camera, yes. Two-channel mode records the front at 4K 60fps and the rear at 2K 30fps, as long as HDR is off. Add the cabin camera as well and the A329S moves to three-channel mode, where the front drops to 4K 30fps. That is easy to miss, so plan for it if 60fps matters to you.
  • Q: Which rear and cabin cameras fit the A329S 1CH? A: The VIOFO RC420 2K rear camera and the VIOFO RCC360 2K infrared cabin camera. They are the same cameras that come in the A329S 2CH and 3CH kits and plug into the ports on the front unit. For glare on the rear glass, the CPL-600 filter fits the RC420.
  • Q: Which hardwire kit do I need? A: The VIOFO HK6 hardwire kit. It is the kit built for the A329 series, and it enables Low Power Impact Detection, voltage cut-off and a live battery voltage readout in the VIOFO app. The older HK4 powers the standard parking modes but does not offer Low Power Parking Mode, which is why we pair the HK6 with the A329S.
  • Q: Can I run the A329S on an SSD with no microSD card? A: For driving and the standard parking modes, yes. For Low Power Impact Detection or Hybrid Parking Mode, keep a microSD card in as well, because clips recorded when the camera wakes from low power standby can only be written to the card. We run both.
  • Q: Should I record at 60fps or turn HDR on? A: For most driving, 60fps with HDR off. You get smoother footage and more frames to pause on a passing plate, and HDR off also avoids the ghosting that blended HDR frames can leave on moving cars at night. Our A329S 60fps and settings guide explains when HDR is still worth switching on.
  • Q: What size memory card should I get? A: For a single 4K 60fps channel, a 256GB high-endurance card suits most drivers and 512GB gives you a longer loop before old footage is recorded over. Use a card built for dash cams, such as the VIOFO Industrial range, because cheap cards are the most common cause of lost footage.
