VIOFO A329S User Manual & Troubleshooting Guide

VIOFO A329S User Manual & Troubleshooting Guide

VIOFO A329S acting up? Lost the booklet? No stress.

You’ve grabbed yourself the new flagship VIOFO A329S, a 4K beast with the fancy Sony STARVIS 2 sensor. But if you’ve chucked the manual or it’s blinking lights at you like a Christmas tree, don't panic. We’ve popped the official digital manual below, along with a quick cheat sheet, firmware update steps and install tips to get you back on the road without the headache.

Haven't bought one yet? This page is for owners. Our full VIOFO A329S review covers whether it's worth it and which version suits your car, or see the VIOFO A329S dash cam in its front and rear kit. It also comes as the front-only VIOFO A329S 1CH dash cam and the VIOFO A329S 3CH dash cam with rear and cabin cameras.

💡 Pro Tip: Get Low Power Parking Mode

The A329S is smart, but it's even smarter with the right kit. To use Low Power Impact Detection (the camera sleeps and wakes to record a bump, which saves your car battery), you need the HK6 Hardwire Kit. The older HK4 powers the standard parking modes, but it does not support Low Power Impact Detection.

Common Troubleshooting & LED Codes

The A329S talks to you through its LEDs. Here’s a quick translation so you know what it’s saying without guessing.

LED Indicator Status What It Means The Fix
REC (Red) Solid Recording Normal All good, drive on!
REC (Red) Flashing Not Recording / Error Check SD card. If updating firmware, wait until it stops.
Wi-Fi (Blue) Flashing Waiting for Connection Connect via VIOFO App on your phone.
Wi-Fi (Blue) Solid Connected You are connected to the App. Recording may stop while downloading files.
GPS (Blue) Solid GPS Locked Speed and location are being logged.
Screen / Audio Beeping / "Format SD" SD Card Error Format the card inside the camera menu. If it persists, you need a high-endurance card.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why does my A329S keep rebooting?
Usually, this isn't a power issue. It's the SD card. If the card is too slow or corrupt, the camera panics and restarts. Make sure you're using a VIOFO Industrial or SanDisk Max Endurance card, and format it monthly inside the camera.

2. My Wi-Fi won't connect on the App.
Classic drama. Turn off your phone's "Mobile Data" and any VPNs before connecting. Your phone tries to be smart and switch back to 4G because the dash cam has no internet, which kills the connection.

3. Which hardwire kit do I need?
For the A329S, we highly recommend the HK6 Type-C Hardwire Kit. It’s specifically designed to support the new "Hybrid Parking Mode" which uses less power than the older detection methods.

How to Update Your A329S Firmware

VIOFO releases firmware updates that fix bugs and add features. It's worth checking every few months, and it's the first thing to try if the camera starts misbehaving and a fresh card hasn't sorted it. There are two main ways to do it.

Option 1: Over the air, through the VIOFO Dashcam App

This is the easy way. VIOFO's over-the-air (OTA) update guide covers the A329S series, and there are no files to download or copy yourself.

Before you start:

  • Leave the microSD card in and the camera powered.
  • Update the VIOFO Dashcam App on your phone first.
  • If you have an SSD connected, unplug it for the update.
  • Turn Mobile Data on. This is the one job where you want it: the app downloads the firmware over mobile data while your phone is joined to the camera's Wi-Fi. If you switched it off to fix connection drops (FAQ 2 above), switch it back on for this.
  1. Power on the camera and turn on its Wi-Fi.
  2. On your phone, join the camera's network. It's named 5G_VIOFO_ followed by the model and some characters, and the default password is 12345678.
  3. Open the VIOFO Dashcam App. If new firmware is available for your camera, a pop-up appears on the home screen.
  4. Tap Download. The app fetches the firmware and pushes it to the camera automatically.
  5. Don't power off the camera while it updates. It reboots itself when it's done, and you're on the new version.

Option 2: The microSD card method

Use this if the app route won't cooperate.

  1. Format the microSD card inside the camera first. (If you have to format it on a computer instead, it needs to be FAT32.)
  2. On a computer, go to VIOFO's Firmware & Manual page, pick the A329S and download the firmware file. It ends in .bin.
  3. Copy only the .bin file onto the top level of the card, not inside a folder. If your browser renamed it to something like (1).bin, rename it back so it ends in exactly .bin. Don't try to open it.
  4. Put the card back in the camera and power it up from the car, or from a 5V wall adapter. Don't use a computer's USB port for this.
  5. The red LED flashes while it updates, which takes about 30 to 60 seconds. When the camera restarts, you're done.

You can also copy the firmware across from a phone using a short USB-C to USB-C data cable. VIOFO's step-by-step firmware guide covers that method. The long cable that came with the car charger is power only and won't carry data.

After any update: have a quick look through your settings. Menu names and defaults can change between firmware versions, so check your parking mode, loop length and G-sensor settings are still how you left them. Our dash cam settings guide for Australian conditions has the values we'd start with.

Installing Your A329S (and Getting Parking Mode Right)

The PDF below has VIOFO's installation diagrams. Here's what matters most in practice, and where to go for the detail.

Mounting and cable routing

Placement, aim, cable routing and keeping clear of curtain airbags are all covered in our DIY dash cam installation guide. If you'd rather not do it yourself, we don't install cameras, but you can find an independent installer near you.

Which hardwire kit gives you which parking modes

This is the bit that catches people out. Both kits power parking mode, but they don't enable the same features:

  • HK6: everything. Low Power Impact Detection, Hybrid Parking Mode, cut-off voltage protection, and your car battery voltage shown in the app and on footage over Bluetooth.
  • HK4: the basic parking modes (auto event detection, time-lapse and low bitrate) with cut-off time protection. No Low Power Impact Detection, no cut-off voltage and no voltage display.

That split comes from VIOFO's own HK6 listing. If you're buying a kit today, get the HK6. Setup for it is in our HK6 hardwire kit guide, and we measured how little it draws in our A329S and HK6 power test.

Wiring it into the fuse box

The full job, step by step, is in how to hardwire a dash cam in Australia, and which fuse to tap covers finding the right two slots. Newer car with no switched fuse? Read why parking mode fails when there's no ACC fuse before you start.

Other ways to power it

  • Battery pack: the VIOFO BP100 runs parking mode without drawing on your car battery at all.
  • No fuse box: the VIOFO OP100 OBD-II cable plugs into your car's diagnostic port instead.

Updated 17 September 2026: added firmware update steps and an installation section, both drawn from VIOFO's own firmware guides and HK6 listing. We also corrected the Hybrid Parking Mode tip, which wrongly described the low-power mode as radar detection; VIOFO calls it Low Power Impact Detection.

Last reviewed: 17 September 2026. The settings, menu names, LED behaviour and default values described here follow VIOFO's own manual for this model. Firmware updates change them, so if something on your camera does not match, check the current manual linked on this page. If a specification, a feature or a price on this page is wrong or has gone out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
