See What Happens Inside the Car, Day or Night. The VIOFO A329S 2CH IR Dash Cam Records a 4K Front and a 2K Infrared Cabin

A front dash cam shows the road, but plenty of disputes start inside the car: the passenger who says you braked too hard, the mark on the seat that was not there before the trip, or the window smashed while you were parked. The VIOFO A329S 2CH IR pairs a 4K front camera with a 2K cabin camera that has a 210° fisheye lens and infrared LEDs, so the road ahead and the whole interior are both on record, even after dark.

Trusted AU store: We're an authorised Australian reseller, shipping from Melbourne within 24 hours*. You get an 18-month warranty with no product registration required, local technical support, and our 30-Day No-Worries returns.

Who This Isn't For: If you want the road behind you recorded as well, the VIOFO A329S 3CH adds a rear camera, although its front runs at 30fps with all three cameras on. If you rarely carry passengers, the VIOFO A329S 2CH swaps the cabin camera for a rear one. The A329S 2CH IR is for drivers who care more about the inside of the car than the back of it.

DCG Highlights

What We Love

  • A 2K cabin camera with a 210° fisheye lens on the 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675, which takes in the front and back seats from one spot on the windscreen
  • Four infrared LEDs on the cabin camera, set to On, Off or Auto, so the interior stays visible at night instead of turning into a black frame
  • 4K at up to 60fps on the 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 up front, because two-channel mode keeps the frame rate the 3CH gives up
  • A cabin camera you can switch on or off separately for driving and for parking, so you choose when the interior is recorded
  • Low Power Impact Detection, which waits in standby and wakes within about 2 seconds of an impact to record a one-minute clip
  • Hybrid Parking Mode, which starts in time-lapse, low bitrate or event recording and switches to low power impact detection at your set cut-off time or voltage
  • External SSD support up to 4TB, which turns hours of looped front and cabin footage into weeks

Good to Know

  • There is no rear camera in this kit. You can add the VIOFO RC420 rear camera later, and the front then records 4K at 30fps with all three cameras running.
  • The front records 4K at 60fps with HDR off. With HDR on, it records 4K at 30fps.
  • Low Power Impact Detection and voltage cut-off need the VIOFO HK6 hardwire kit, sold separately. In Low Power and Hybrid modes, clips save to the microSD card only.
  • Victoria and Queensland transport rules restrict cameras that record inside rideshare cars. Read our rideshare dash cam laws guide before you fit one for passenger work.

Why Is a Cabin Camera Harder to Get Right Than a Road Camera?

A cabin camera works only centimetres from the people it records, so an ordinary lens sees the front seats and not much else. The interior is also at its darkest when you most want footage of it: late at night, in a car park, or with passengers in the back. With no light to work with, even a good sensor records a black frame.

The VIOFO A329S 2CH IR cabin camera handles both problems. Its 210° fisheye lens covers the front and back seats from one position on the windscreen, and on Auto its infrared LEDs switch on as the light fades. The trade-off is the picture: infrared footage is black and white, and a fisheye view bends straight lines near the edges. There are rules to weigh too. Victoria and Queensland transport rules restrict cameras that record inside rideshare cars, so read our guide to rideshare dash cam laws in Australia before you use the cabin camera for passenger work.

Top Benefits

  • Passenger incidents on record: The 210° infrared cabin camera captures the whole interior, day or night.
  • Smoother road footage: Two-channel mode keeps the front at 4K 60fps, giving twice the frames of a 30fps camera to pause on a passing plate.
  • Interior cover while parked: Set the cabin camera to record only in parking mode if you would rather not film every drive.
  • Longer parked protection: Low power and hybrid parking modes stretch how long the camera can keep watch on the same battery.
  • Clips on your phone fast: Wi-Fi 6 moves footage to the VIOFO app without pulling the card.
  • Proof of where and how fast: Quad-mode GPS logs location, speed and time onto every clip.
  • Room to grow: Add the RC420 rear camera later and the same front unit records three channels.

How Does the VIOFO A329S 2CH IR Install?

  1. Stick the front camera and GPS mount behind the rear-view mirror and tuck the power lead into the headlining with the trim tool in the box.
  2. Fix the cabin camera to the windscreen where it can see the whole interior, then, with the front camera switched off, connect it using the 1m cabin camera cable.
  3. Power it from the 12V socket with the included USB-C car charger, or hardwire it with the HK6 kit for the full set of parking modes.
  4. Insert and format a microSD card, then pair the VIOFO app to set the time, GPS, IR LED and parking options.

With no rear cable to run the length of the car, the plug-in route is a short job. Hardwiring means finding a switched and a constant fuse, and a circuit tester makes that far easier.

FAQ

  • Q: Does the A329S 2CH IR record behind the car? A: No, and it is an easy assumption to make. The 2CH IR records the road ahead and the cabin, and there is no rear camera in the box. To cover the rear, add the VIOFO RC420 rear camera later or choose the A329S 3CH, which includes one. With all three cameras running, the front records 4K at 30fps rather than 60fps.
  • Q: Does the front really record 4K 60fps with the cabin camera on? A: Yes, as long as HDR is off. In two-channel mode the A329S records the front at 4K 60fps and the cabin at 2K 30fps. Switch HDR on and the front drops to 4K 30fps. VIOFO's product page lists HDR alongside 60fps, but the A329S manual says 4K 60fps is only available with HDR disabled, so we go by the manual.
  • Q: Can the cabin camera see in the dark? A: Yes. It has four infrared LEDs you can set to On, Off or Auto. On Auto the camera turns them on as the cabin gets dark, and the footage switches to black and white. With them off it relies on whatever light is in the car, so leave them on Auto if you drive at night.
  • Q: Can I use the A329S 2CH IR in a rideshare car? A: Check your state's rules before you fit it. Victoria and Queensland transport rules restrict cameras that record inside rideshare cars, and the platforms have their own policies too. Our rideshare dash cam laws guide sets out where things stand, so read it before you rely on the cabin camera for passenger work.
  • Q: Which hardwire kit do I need? A: The VIOFO HK6 hardwire kit. It is the kit built for the A329 series, and it enables Low Power Impact Detection, Hybrid Parking Mode, voltage cut-off and a live battery voltage readout in the VIOFO app. The older HK4 powers the standard parking modes but does not offer Low Power Parking Mode, which is why we pair the HK6 with the A329S family.
  • Q: What memory card or SSD should I use? A: For two channels, a 256GB high-endurance card suits most drivers, and 512GB gives a longer loop before old footage is recorded over. For weeks of footage, add an external SSD of up to 4TB, but keep a microSD card in as well, because Low Power and Hybrid parking clips can only be written to the card.
