Who This Isn't For: The E360 Plus has no handheld mount or tripod stand. If you want to film away from the car, the Vantrue E360 ACE adds both. If you do not need a rear camera, the Vantrue E360 is the same camera without one. For distant number plates, the Vantrue N4 Pro S has a 4K front. The Plus suits drivers who keep the camera on the glass.

• Alongside the 5.2K panorama, the rear camera records at 1440P. The full 1944P rear, which Vantrue calls 2.7K, comes with the fisheye and flat recording modes.
• Parking mode needs constant power from a Vantrue hardwire kit or OBD cable, sold separately. Vantrue warns that other brands' kits may not switch parking mode on and off correctly.
• Vantrue says to mount the camera at least 40cm from each A-pillar, and the rear camera in the centre of the rear window, clear of the demister lines.

Why Does a 360° Dash Cam Still Need a Rear Camera?

A 360° dash cam on the windscreen sees the rear window from the wrong end of the car, which is why the Vantrue E360 Plus adds a separate rear camera. The E360's cabin lens looks back past the seats, the headrests and any passengers, so the car behind appears small and partly blocked. In a nose-to-tail collision, that is the view you most want to be clear. The E360 Plus puts a 165° camera on the rear window itself, so the car behind fills the frame instead of hiding behind your headrests.

The trade-off is a 6m cable to run along the headlining, and the rear drops to 1440P while the 5.2K panorama is on. How Does the Vantrue E360 Plus Install?

1. Insert a U3 microSD card, power the camera on and set the language and time zone before it goes on the glass.
2. Choose a spot in the centre of the windscreen, at least 40cm from each A-pillar. Clean the glass, fit the electrostatic sticker and press the adhesive GPS mount base onto it.
3. Fit the rear camera in the centre of the rear window, clear of the demister lines, and run the 6m rear cable along the headlining to the rear camera port on the camera body.
4. Slide the camera onto the mount with the front lens facing the road, plug the car charger into the cigarette lighter socket and tuck its 3.5m cable along the headlining and down the A-pillar, using the cable clip to keep it tidy.

The rear cable is the longest part of the job, because it runs the length of the cabin. In a hatch, wagon or SUV, plan where the cable crosses from the roof to the tailgate before you start. Parking mode is the other bigger job, because hardwiring means finding a switched and a constant fuse.
